GLIAC Posts Four Teams in NCAA D-II Women's Soccer Midwest Rankings

INDIANAPOLIS -- The NCAA Division II Women's Soccer Committee has released the NCAA Division II women's soccer poll. The top teams in each region, with records through October 5 are listed. The final regular-season poll will be published November 4 and championship selections will take place November 9. Selections will be announced at 7 p.m. Eastern time, Monday, November 9 via a webcast selection show on NCAA.com.

The GLIAC has four teams in this week's poll. Grand Valley State University occupies the top spot in the Region, followed by Saginaw Valley State University at No. 7, Tiffin University at No. 9, and the University of Findlay at No. 10.
GVSU advanced its record to 10-0-2, 6-0-1 GLIAC over the weekend with a win over Northwood (4-0) and a tie with Saginaw Valley State (1-1). In the win over Northwood four different players recorded a goal for GVSU. Senior Irie Dennis (New Albany, Ohio), sophomore Erin Mruz (Gurnee, Ill.) and freshmen Erin Hilbert (Ada, Mich.) and Ashley Botts (Beloit, Wis.) recorded a goal in the shutout win. Mruz recorded her team-high eighth assist while goalie Chelsea Parise (Warren, Mich.) picked up the shutout win against Northwood, her seventh of the year. Hilbert scored the lone goal in the 1-1 tie with Saginaw Valley State, placing her second on the team in goals (6) and points (13). Parise collected five saves and allowed one goal in 110 minutes of action. Grand Valley State outshot opponents 49-18 over the weekend, with a 22-10 advantage in shots on goal.
The Saginaw Valley women's soccer team defeated Ferris State University 5-0 (Oct 2). The shutout was the team's seventh of the season and Berschbach increases her scoreless streak to 553 minutes. The Saginaw Valley State University women's soccer team competed Sunday (Oct. 4) in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Conference (GLIAC) match against Grand Valley State University. The lady Cardinals competed well in a double overtime tie against the Lakers. Saginaw Valley's first goal of the game came in the 26th minute when Renee Privette for the Cards first and only goal of the game. SVSU would hold the Lakers scoreless until the 84th minute when Erin Hilbert of Grand Valley found the back of the net to tie the game 1-1. The match would continue into two overtimes where neither team could break the tie. The Cardinals defense played strong once again helping increase sophomore goalkeeper Berschbach's scoreless streak that broke today at 638 minutes. With the tie Saginaw Valley's record moves to 8-1-2 on the season and 5-0-2.
Tiffin's Ashley Davis had her best week of the season so far, scoring a total of 3 goals with 3 assists in two victories over Ashland and Northern Michigan. In a 4-0 win at Ashland, Davis assisted the first and third goals before tacking on the fourth goal herself. In a 3-1 win vs. Northern Michigan, Davis opened the scoring in the 20th minute and then assisted the game-winning goal in the 48th minute. She added an insurance goal in the 63rd minute. Tiffin University got a strong all-around game in a 4-0 win at Ashland, with Satu Hermunen scoring on a pass from Davis. Sheri Camloh made it 2-0 at the half when Danielle Eaken passed her the ball in the 43rd minute. Davis then assisted Shelly Rogers in the 49th minute to make it 3-0, and Davis finished the scoring when she took a pass from Nichole Sorice in the 51st minute. Lindsey Gallagher got the shutout in goal, making 3 saves over 90 minutes. Gallagher got another win in goal, making 6 saves over 90 minutes against Northern.
The University of Findlay women's soccer team held a 1-0 lead for the majority of their contest against Northern Michigan University on Friday, October 2 but had to settle for a 1-1 tie as the Wildcats scored the tying goal with only 1:32 left in regulation. Sara Jones gave the Oilers a 1-0 lead in the 17th minute of the game when she scored off of assists by Emily Beddoes and Brianna Milne and then the Oilers defense took over holding the Wildcats to nothing until Dana Stephens tied the game at the 88:28 mark. Alicia Tutino made nine saves in the net for Findlay and faced 19 shots in the game. The University of Findlay women's soccer team tied Ashland University 3-3 on Sunday, October 4. The tie gives the Oilers a 4-4-2 mark on the year with a 3-2-2 record in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play. The Oilers found themselves down 3-0 midway through the second half but rallied for three goals to tie and force overtime. The Oilers will be back in action again on October 9 when they travel to Midland, Michigan to take on Northwood University at 2:00 p.m.
