Bay City, Mich. -- Grand Valley State University senior goal keeper Kristina Nasturzio has been named Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Women's Soccer Player of the Week.

Grand Valley State University senior goalkeeper Kristina Nasturzio extended her shutout streak to 334:51 to start the season by stopping four shots in 180 minutes of action this weekend. Nasturzio has notched three shutouts in the first four matches of the season. She stopped a season-high three shots against Quincy (Ill.) in a 2-0 win.

Ashland - Ashland earned a split in their weekend trip in Indiana. Ashland lost 2-0 on Friday against Indianapolis, but bounced back with a 4-1 victory over St. Joseph's on Sunday. In the match against the Pumas, junior Casey Snyder recorded a hat trick to pace the Eagles. Snyder now has five goals on the season to lead the Eagles. The Eagles will play at home against Urbana on Wednesday at 2, and travel to Northern Michigan to take on the Wildcats on Sunday at 12 p.m.
Ferris State - Freshman midfielder Maegan Smith (Hickory Corners/Kalamazoo Christian) tallied her first collegiate goal in Ferris State's 2-1 non-conference loss at Lewis Sunday (9/7). Smith scored unassisted at the 58:51 mark of the second half for the Bulldogs' lone marker... The Bulldogs are 5-2-1 (.688) all-time in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opening matches dating back to the 1999 season. FSU is 4-1 (.800) in its last five conference openers which includes a 2-1 league win at Ashland last season (9/28). Ferris State is 2-0 at home and 3-2-1 on the road in GLIAC opening contests.
Findlay - The Oilers finished the week with a 1-1 record after defeating Urbana 8-1 at home and losing 5-1 to 14th ranked Northern Kentucky on the road...In the win over Urbana, sophomore Sara Jones registered two goals and two assits...Freshman Caitlyn Theacker added a pair of goals while senior Ali Cariglio had a goal and two assists.
Grand Valley State - The Lakers moved up to the No. 1 ranking in the NSCAA/adidas poll after wins over Tampa and Southern Indiana the previous week...Junior forward Irie Dennis (New Albany, Ohio) has now scored three goals, all game-winners, in the first four matches of the season...Dennis leads the squad with three goals, two assists and eight points...Redshirt freshman Erin Mruz (Gurnee, Ill.) is became the only Laker other than Dennis this season to score a game-winning goal with her marker against Quincy on Friday...Ashley Elsass (Powell, Ohio) also scored against the Lady Hawks, her second goal of the season...GVSU outshot opponents 25-9 over the weekend, with a 14-4 advantage in shots on goal.
Northern Michigan - Northern Michigan went 2-1 last week as both wins were shutouts... Against Lewis, Kara Music recorded her 14th career shutout as she is the all-time leader in Wildcat history...Music recorded zero saves against the Flyers...Against Concordia Music and Dana Bush combined for the shutout with three saves...The ‘Cats lost to Winona State in overtime on Sunday and are now 1-1 on the season with the extra time...Kari Buckel leads the team with two goals as she scored both goals against Concordia on Friday...Five ‘Cats have a goal each...This week the ‘Cats are still at home against Minnesota-Duluth on Friday and Ashland on Sunday for its first conference action of the season.
Northwood - The Timberwolves were idle last week. Northwood returns to action on Tuesday when it travels to Alma College (Mich.) before visiting rival Saginaw Valley State University on Sunday (Noon).
Saginaw Valley State - The Saginaw Valley State University women's soccer team fell 2-0 to Quincy University after their first game of the weekend against Missouri-St. Louis was cancelled due to unplayable field conditions. The Cardinals were unable to get any kind of offense going on Sunday (Sept. 7) and were beaten 2-0. SVSU falls to 0-2 on the season and returns to action at noon on September 14 against Northwood University for the 2008 GLIAC opener.
Tiffin - Deidre Abouahmed (Def., SR, Sylvania OH) helped lead the Dragons to a 2-0 regional week as they remained unbeaten at 4-0. Abouahmed did all of her damage in the St. Joseph's game, where she scored 3 goals with an assist to beat the Pumas. Abouahmed's 3 goals against St. Joseph's was a personal best, as she previously had scored only 2 goals in the last two seasons. Abouahmed also helped lead the defense in posting a shutout against regional opponent Indianapolis 1-0 in their second victory of the week... Shelly Rogers netted her third goal of the season, scoring the gamewinner against the Greyhounds. She now leads the Dragons with 3 goals and 2 assists...Ciara Gossett leads the team with 3 assists...Abby Grieser posted her first shutout of the year against Indianapolis and has a 0.79 GAA with 18 saves in her first four games.
