Ashland's Erin Misheff Named GLIAC Women's Golf "Athlete of the Week"

BAY CITY, Mich. - Ashland University senior Erin Misheff (Silver Lake, Ohio/Walsh Jesuit) was named the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) women's golf "Athlete of the Week" after claiming medalist honors at the Tiffin University Invitational last weekend.

Erin Misheff - Ashland University

Ashland University senior Erin Misheff won the individual championship at the recent Tiffin Invitational (Apr. 15-16) held at Mohawk Country Club. Misheff shot 156 (80-76, +12) to win the title by three strokes and help the Eagles to a third place team finish.
Ashland - Ashland University senior Erin Misheff
(Silver Lake, Ohio/Walsh Jesuit) won the individual championship at
the recent Tiffin Invitational (Apr. 15-16). Misheff shot 156
to win the title by three strokes. Michele Schambs of Findlay
and AU's Holly James (Strongsville, Ohio/Walsh Jesuit) tied for
second. Both players shot 159. The Eagles finished third in the
final team standings. Findlay shot 651 to claim the team
championship. Ferris State shot 656 to finish second and the
Eagles shot 658 and finished third. Northwood (697) was
fourth. The field included seven teams. AU sophomore Nicole
Trivisonno (Wickliffe, Ohio/Notre Dame Cathedral Latin) tied for
12th. She shot 169. Up next for the Eagles are the GLIAC
Championships, Apr. 23-24 in Midland, Mich. The Eagles finished
second at that event last spring.
Ferris State - The Ferris State University
women's golf team placed second overall in the Tiffin Invitational
held on Sunday and Monday, April 15-16, in Tififn, Ohio. The
Bulldogs posted a tourney low-round of 321 to take the early
advantage on Sunday before carding a 335 on Monday to finish at 656
for the tournament. Findlay matched FSU's 321 score in the
final round to win the event with a 651 total at the Mohawk Golf
and Country Club. Ashland came in third at 658, Northwood took
fourth place with a 697 total and Ohio Dominican rounded out the
top five with a 704 mark in the seven-team tournament on the par 72
course at a distance of 5,830 in length. Erin Fuchik paced the
Bulldogs as she placed fifth in the field with rounds of 80 and 82
while carding a 162 total. Behind Fuchik was Bryce Hetchler, who
placed tied for sixth at 163 on rounds of 79 and 84. FSU's
Jacqueline DeBoer finished tied for ninth overall at 167 with
scores of 81 and 86 in rounds one and two, respectively. Brooke
Rodes wound up 11th overall at 168 as she tallied marks of 81 and
87. Finally, Emily Rohdy gave the Bulldogs their fifth
finisher among the top 15 overall as she came in tied for 14th
place with a 170 total on rounds of 87 and 83. Blaize Baumgartner
competed individually in the tournament and was 26th overall at 179
as she fired rounds of 88 and 91 over the two days of competition.
Ferris State will next take part in the 2012 GLIAC Championships
scheduled for April 23-24 in Midland, Mich. a 619 followed by
California(Pa.) at 620, Findlay at 622 and Ashland at 625 in front
of the Bulldogs.A total of 13 teams competed in the event... Ferris
State is back in action on Wednesday, April 4, with a dual against
the University of Findlay on the road.
Findlay - The University of Findlay women's golf
team won the Tiffin University Invitational, which concluded on
April 16. The Oilers shot a two-round score of 651
(330), 321) at the event to claim the top prize as seven teams
competed in the tournament. Michele Schambs tied for second to lead
Findlay as she carded a 159 (81, 78) while Ashley Gubser (79, 81
– 160) and Lauren Vogt (83, 80 – 163) finished fourth
and sixth, respectively. Brooke Albers tied for 12th after carding
a 169 (87, 82) while Trelyn Gerlinger (97, 89 – 186), Emily
Mock (99, 90 – 189) and Heather Steiner (96, 99 – 195)
also competed for the Oilers during the event. The Oilers will
return to the course again on April 23-24 at the 2012 Great Lakes
Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Championship in
Midland, Mich.
Grand Valley State - 11th-ranked Grand Valley
State won its sixth event of the 2011-12 year over the weekend,
claiming the victory at the Oak Terrace Spring Invite by seven
strokes. The Lakers shot a 319 (+31) total and were led by senior
Sarah Hoffman (Saline, Mich.), who won medalist honors by six
strokes with a two-under 70. GVSU will now look to the GLIAC
Championship next Monday and Tuesday (Apr. 23-24), played at Currie
G.C. in Midland, Mich.
Lake Erie Storm - The three members of the Lake
Erie College women's golf team competed at the Tiffin University
Invitational this past weekend. Amanda Blasko led the Storm by
finishing in 33rd place after shooting a 188 (93, 95)through two
rounds of play.
Lake Superior State - Freshman Megan Henry (Novi,
Mich.) shot an 85-85—170 to tie for 14th and lead Lake
Superior State at last weekend’s Tiffin Invitational. Henry
boasts the Lakers’ low average of 82.7 heading into the GLIAC
Championships. Sophomore Nicole Bouwens (Cedar Springs, Mich.), who
was disqualified at Tiffin, is second in scoring average at
84.3.
Northwood - The Northwood University women's golf
team earned a fourth place finish at the Tiffin Invitational Monday
afternoon (April 16). The two-day, 36-hole event was held at the
Mohawk Country Club and hosted by Tiffin. The par 72 layout played
at 5,830 yards. Northwood shot team scores of 352 and 345 to finish
at 697 overall. Findlay was the overall winner at 651, followed by
Ferris State at 656. Brittany Davidson (Ontario) led the
Timberwolves with an overall score of 167, carding rounds of 86 and
81. She tied for ninth place overall. Northwood will play host to
the GLIAC Championship at the Midland Country Club on April 23 and
24.
Ohio Dominican Panthers - Ohio Dominican's
women's golf team concluded play at the 36-hole Tiffin Spring
Invitational on Monday, taking fifth place at the par-71, 5,830
yard Mohawk Golf and Country Club with a two-day total of 704
(344-360). Senior Kelsey Brock (Zanesville, OH), junior Amanda
Costanzo (Silver Lake, OH) and sophomore Ashley Swartz (Lima, OH)
all battled the turbulent wind conditions to a cumulative score of
174 for 17th-place tie. Brock's day two final of 84 was the low-18
of the tournament for ODU and also matched her low round of the
season. Freshmen Lauren Kyre (Pickerington, OH) and Danielle
Misencik (Concord, OH) navigated their way to a 178 to earn a
three-way tie for 23rd, while classmate Kelsey Auditore (Dayton,
OH) tie for 27th with a 181 (93-88). Findlay moved up one spot from
Sunday to claim the team championship with a score of 651,
overcoming first round leader and eventual runner-up Ferris State
(Mich.) by five strokes. Ashland was just two shots back of the
Bulldogs in third, while Northwood (Mich.) posted a 697 to jump
ahead of the Panthers into fourth. ODU closes its second year in
Division II next Tuesday and Wednesday, April 23-24 at the GLIAC
Championship at the Midland CC in Midland, Michigan.
Tiffin - Tiffin University's women's golf team
finished sixth of seven teams at the Tiffin Invitational, shooting
a two-day total of 721 (350-371). Findlay won the event, beating
Ferris State 651-656. Deborah Landis was the top golfer for the
Dragons, shooting 80-85-165 to finish in 8th place. Jaycee Garrow
was next with a 181 while Abby Martin was right behind with 183.
Allison Soviak fired a 192, while Lauren Harris was fifth on the
squad with 221. Erika Davis also golfed as an individual, finishing
with 219.
