Grand Valley State's Sarah Hoffman Wins Third Straight GLIAC Women's Golf "Athlete of the Week"

BAY CITY, Mich. - Grand Valley State University senior Sarah Hoffman (Saline, Mich.) was named the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) women's golf "Athlete of the Week" for the third week in a row after earning medalist honors at the 2011 Laker Fall Classic, hosted by Grand Valley State University.

Senior Sarah Hoffman claimed
individual medalist honors this past weekend at the Laker Fall
Classic at The Meadows in Allendale, Mich., her third straight win.
On her home turf, Hoffman shot an opening round 69 (-3), the only
round all weekend in the 60’s from any golfer. In the final
round, Hoffman shot a 76 to finish with a 145 (+1) total to win the
individual trophy by three strokes. Her efforts led the Lakers to a
team victory in the tournament winning by 12 strokes.
Ashland - The Ashland University women's golf
team finished in a tie for second place Sunday (Oct. 23) at Grand
Valley State's Laker Fall Classic. The tournament was held in
Allendale, Mich., at The Meadows Golf Club. AU and California
finished the two-day event tied for second. Both schools shot 630.
AU senior Erin Misheff (Silver Lake, Ohio/Walsh Jesuit) tied for
second place with Maggie Leland of Augustana. Both players shot
148. Freshman Madison Musick (Fairborn, Ohio) shot 156 and finished
eighth. Sophomore Nicole Trivisonno (Wickliffe, Ohio/Notre
Dame Cathedral Latin) shot 162 and was one of five players who tied
for 19th. This was AU's final tournament of the fall schedule.
Ferris State - The Ferris State University
women's golf team finished up the fall portion of its schedule by
taking sixth place at the Grand Valley State Lady Laker Classic on
Sunday (Oct. 23) in Allendale, Mich. The Bulldogs moved up three
spots from ninth place following Saturday's (Oct. 22) opening round
and finished at 652 for the tournament. FSU shot a 338 in the
initial round followed by a tourney second-best tying 314 in the
second round at The Meadows Golf Course. Senior Erin Fuchik paced
the Bulldogs as she placed tied for 17th overall in the field with
a two-round total of 161 on rounds of 87 and 74. She was followed
by sophomore Jacqueline DeBoer, who fired an 82 on Saturday and an
80 on Sunday to finish at 162 and tied for 20th. Bulldog
senior Brooke Rodes also tied for 20th with a 162 as she carded a
76 on Sunday after an opening-round score of 86. FSU senior Bryce
Hetchler posted a 169, which was good enough for a tie of 36th
place in the field. She tallied a 85 in the first round and
an 84 in round two. Finally, sophomore Emily Rohdy tied for 39th
overall at 171 as she posted scores of 85 and 86 in the first and
second round, respectively. Bulldog senior Blaize Baumgartner
competed as an individual and finished tie for 20th at 162 with
rounds of 86 and 76 over the two days. Host Grand Valley State
captured the team title with a 618 score followed by California
(Pa.) at 629 and Ashland at 630 in the top three overall. A
total of 15 teams took part in the competition on the par 72 course
with a length of 5,954 yards. The Bulldogs are currently set to
open their spring season on March 31 and April 1 in the Ohio
Dominican Give 18 Fore Cancer Classic at Pataskala, Ohio.
Findlay - The University of Findlay women's golf
team finished eighth at the Grand Valley State University
Invitational, which concluded on Sunday, October 23 in Allendale,
Michigan. The Oilers shot a two-round score of 665 (337, 328)
at the event. Michele Schambs led the team by placing 11th with a
158 (78, 80). Ashley Gubser (83, 83 – 166), Lauren Vogt (86,
85 – 171), Trelyn Gerlinger (90, 84 – 174) and Brooke
Albers (97, 81 – 178) also competed for the Oilers at the
event. Findlay returns to the golf course in the spring.
Grand Valley State - The Lakers won their fourth
tournament of the season at the Laker Fall Classic hosted at The
Meadows in Allendale, Mich. while senior Sarah Hoffman captured her
third straight individual medal by shooting a two-round total of
145 (+1), including a three-under 69 in the first round, the only
round in the 60’s all weekend. GVSU shot 308 in the first
round and 310 in the final round to win the team trophy, beating
Ashland and California (Pa.) by 12 strokes each. Freshman Kelly
Hartigan and sophomore Veronica Ryan each finished in a tie for
ninth to give the Lakers three golfers in the top 10 of the
individual standings after they each shot 157 for the weekend. GVSU
wrapped up their fall season and will now get ready for the spring
season to begin.
Lake Erie Storm - Lake Erie finished 14th out of
14 teams at the Laker Fall Classic.
Lake Superior State - Freshman Megan Henry
(Novi, Mich.) shot an 98-89—174 to tie for 45th place and
lead Lake Superior State at the Laker Fall Classic hosted by Grand
Valley State. Sophomore Nicole Bouwens (Cedar Springs, Mich.) tied
for 51st with an 83-92—175. Henry boasts the Lakers’
low average for the season of 82.3, while Bouwens follows at 85.2.
The Lakers closed out the fall portion of their schedule with a
12th-place finish.
Northwood - The Northwood University
women’s golf placed 10th at the Laker Fall Classic Sunday
afternoon (October 23). The two-day, 36-hole event featured some of
the best teams in the region and was hosted by Grand Valley State
University. The tournament was held at The Meadows Golf Club,
which played as a par 72 (5,954 yards). Northwood shot team scores
of 346 and 347 to finish at 693 overall. Grand Valley State
was the overall winner at 618 (310-308), followed by Ashland and
California (PA) at 630. A total of 15 teams took part in the
event. NU was led by Brittany Davidson (Mississauga, Ont.).
She shot rounds of 84 and 83 for a total of 167, good for a 31st
place finish. Amee Cox (Liverpool, England) tied for 43rd at
173 (89-84). Northwood has now completed the fall portion of their
schedule.
Ohio Dominican Panthers - The Panthers fall
portion of the schedule has concluded.
Tiffin - Tiffin University's women's golf team
finished 13th of 15 teams at the Grand Valley State Invitational
held Oct. 22-23. Deborah Landis led the team with a 41st place
finish, shooting 172 overall. She improved on a 90 in round one by
eight strokes (82) on day two. Allison Soviak and Jaycee Garrow
each shot 188 for TU, while Abby Martin was right behind with 193.
Lauren Harris also shot 235. TU showed good improvement from round
one to round two, improving by 27 strokes on day two (384-357).
