Ashland's Erin Misheff Named GLIAC Women's Golf "Athlete of the Week"

BAY CITY, Mich. - Ashland University's junior Erin Misheff (Silver Lake, Ohio/Walsh Jesuit) has been named the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Women's Golf "Athlete of the Week" after winning the GLIAC Championship this past weekend shooting a three round total of 230 (77-73-80). Misheff and teammate Annie Miles (253) finished first and second to help Ashland to a second place team finish at the tournament shooting a team score of 969, only three strokes out of first place.

Ashland University junior Erin Misheff earned medalist honors at the GLIAC Championship this past weekend (April 22-23). Misheff produced a three day stroke total of 230 (77-73-80) in the 54-hole event which was held at the Country Club of Ashland in Ashland, Ohio. Misheff strong play helped the Eagles to a second place finish over the weekend.
Ashland - Ashland has been invited to the NCAA
playoffs for the third consecutive year. The Eagles will
compete at California (PA), May 1-3, at the Cedarbrook Golf Course
in Belle Vernon, Pa…AU finished second at last
week’s GLIAC Championship, hosted by the Eagles at the
Country Club of Ashland. Senior Annie Miles (Dublin,
Ohio/Bishop Watterson), who was second at the GLIAC Championships,
was named the GLIAC golfer of the year. Junior Erin Misheff
(Silver Lake, Ohio/Walsh Jesuit) was the medalist. Misheff
was the GLIAC runnerup in 2009. She was named to the GLIAC first
team for the third consecutive year. Miles is a first team
all-conference choice for the second straight season.
Sophomore Holly James (Strongsville, Ohio/Walsh Jesuit) earned
first team All-GLIAC laurels for the first time in her
career. Seniors Elisa Leonard (Fairlawn, Ohio/Copley) and
Melanie Fortner (Vermilion, Ohio) were named to the GLIAC honorable
mention list.
Ferris State - The Ferris State University
women's golf team finished third overall in the 2011 GLIAC
Championship after final round play on Saturday. The Bulldogs
carded a 334 over Saturday's final 18 holes of action at the
Country Club of Ashland (Ohio) to finish with a three-round effort
of 1,004 strokes or +140 for the tournament. Ferris State's
Jacqueline DeBoer earned GLIAC Freshman of the Year Award accolades
after finishing tied for sixth overall with a team-best total of
246 (+30) for the three rounds. FSU freshman Emily Rohdy also
placed in the top 10 overall as she came in ninth with a score of
249 (+33), which included a final round score of 82 on Saturday.
The Bulldogs' Brooke Rodes, a junior, was 14th overall at 253 (+37)
while both junior Blaize Baumgartner and junior Bryce Hetchler tied
for 17th at 257 (+41). Hetchler competed as an individual and
did not figure into the team score. In addition to being tabbed as
the GLIAC's Freshman of the Year, DeBoer claimed All-GLIAC First
Team accolades. Rhody was a second-team honoree while Baumgartner
earned honorable mention kudos. For the 10th consecutive time,
Ferris State University will be represented at the NCAA Division II
Women's Golf Super Regionals. Ferris State is among nine teams who
will playing in the 2011 East Super Regional from May 1-3 at the
Cedarbrook Golf Club in Belle Vernon, Pa.
Findlay - The University of Findlay
women’s golf team placed fourth at the 2011 GLIAC
Championship, which was completed on Saturday. The Oilers shot a
three-round score of 1,016 (335, 334, 347) at the event as Grand
Valley State University took home the title with a 966 (322, 327,
317). Individually, Andrea Vogt took tenth place to lead the team
after carding a 250 (80, 80, 90) while Ashley Gubser (84, 84, 84
– 252) was 13th. The University of Findlay women’s golf
team was selected to compete in the East Region Super Regional on
May 1-3 at the Cedarbrook Golf Course in Belle Vernon,
Pennsylvania. The Oilers last competed at the regional during the
2009 campaign, finishing ninth. Senior Andrea Vogt, who was named
second team all-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference
(GLIAC) over the weekend, competed as an individual last year and
finished in a tie for 32nd with a 244.
Grand Valley State - After trailing by 14
strokes after Friday's opening round of 36 holes, Grand Valley
State put together a terrific 18-hole round on Saturday (Apr. 23)
in Ashland, Ohio to capture its fourth consecutive GLIAC Women's
Golf Championship. The Lakers' score of 317 on Saturday was 17
strokes better than Ashland and enough for GVSU to win the team
title by three strokes. All five Laker golfers placed in the
top-15, with three GVSU players finishing in the top-five, as the
program notched its eighth league championship. After the
tournament, the conference awards were handed out and GVSU was
well-represented throughout the ceremony. Tyler was named to the
All-GLIAC First Team for the third team, also earning that
distinction each of the past two seasons. She was an All-GLIAC
Second Team choice during her freshman year. Hoffman was also an
All-GLIAC First Team selection, marking the second time she has
been named to the league's top team. GVSU heads to the NCAA Midwest
Regional Tournament on May 1-3 in Belle Vernon, Pa. The top three
teams will advance to the NCAA Division II National Championships
on May 11-14, being hosted at The Meadows in Allendale.
Lake Erie Storm -
The Lake Erie College women's golf team shot 414 in the final round
of the 2011 GLIAC Championships. The Storm finished the tournament
in eighth place with a final score of 1205 (+341), ten shots behind
seventh place Lake Superior State. The best final round for Lake
Erie came from Junior Amanda Blasko (Concord, Ohio/Mentor) with a
97 on the par 72 score. Blasko finished with a third-day
total of 294. The GLIAC Championships completed Lake Erie's 2010-11
season.
Lake Superior State
- Lake Superior State placed seventh among eight teams
while making its second appearance in the GLIAC Championships,
which were held Thursday, Friday and Saturday at the Country Club
of Ashland. Freshman Samantha Gubbins (Lake City, Mich.) shot a
90-92-96—278 and tied for 25th to lead LSSU. Freshman Dayna
Drewes (Rochester Hills, Mich.) tied for 28th with a
98-93-95—286. Gubbins posted the Lakers’ low average
for the season of 88.9, while Drewes was second at 89.4.
Northwood - The Northwood University women's golf
team placed fifth at the GLIAC Championships Saturday. Northwood
shot team scores of 341-368-341 to finish at 1050 overall. Freshman
Amee Cox (Liverpool, England) was the top finisher for the
Timberwolves. She carded rounds of 78-89-84 to finish at 251 and
tie for 11th out of 40 players. Lauren Lenkowski (Batavia, Ill.)
tied for 19th at 258 (87-88-83). At the conclusion of the event,
the All-GLIAC teams were announced. Three Timberwolves were named
Honorable Mention – Cox, Lenkowski and Brittany Davidson
(Mississauga, Ont.) Northwood has now completed its 2010-11
season.
Ohio Dominican - The Ohio Dominican women’s
golf team did not participate in competition this week and their
2011 season is complete.
Tiffin - The Tiffin women's golf team
finished sixth of eight teams at the 2011 GLIAC Championships,
hosted by the Eagles at the Country Club of Ashland. Tiffin (+266,
1130) finished ahead of Lake Erie and Lake Superior State while
Grand Valley State captured the title with a +102 (966). Deborah
Landis recorded the only TU birdie on the day and finished tied for
21st, shooting a 260 over all three rounds. Allison Soviak finished
tied for 28th at +70 (286) while Amanda Orr was just three strokes
behind Soviak with a 289. Abby Martin took fourth with an 80-over
par 296 while Stephanie Templeman finished with a 301 (+85). Tiffin
women's golf team finishes the 2010-2011 season next weekend when
it travels to Sylvania for the Lourdes College Invitational.
