BAY CITY, Mich. - Ashland University senior Annie Miles (Dublin, Ohio/Bishop Watterson) was named the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) women's golf "Athlete of the Week" after leading all GLIAC golferer by placing tied for fifth at the Lake Fall Classic hosted by Grand Valley State University.

Ashland University senior Annie Miles posted the GLIAC’s top individual finish at the Lake Fall Classic hosted by Grand Valley State University at the Meadows Golf Course in Allendale, Mich. She carded rounds of 75 and 76 for a two round total of 151 (+7), which tied for fifth place at the event. Her efforts helped the Eagles to a third-place finish with rounds of 324 and 306 (630), the best finish of any GLIAC team in the event.
Ashland - The Eagles were at Grand Valley State
for the Laker Fall Classic on Oct. 3-4. AU was seventh after
the first day of play, but thanks to a furious rally, ended the
tournament in third place. On the second day of play, AU shot 306.
The only team with a better second-round score was the tournament
champion, Florida Southern (295). Ashland’s final score was
630. Florida Southern (600) won the event with Augustana (SD)
finishing as the runnerup (613). Ashland’s top score
was turned in by senior Annie Miles (Dublin, Ohio/BishopWatterson).
She shot 151 and finished in a two-way tie for fifth place.
Sophomore Holly James (Strongsville, Ohio/Walsh Jesuit) finished in
a tie for 18th place. She shot 157…the Eagles will play in
the Findlay Invitational on Oct. 10-11.
Ferris State - A seventh-place performance is
what the Ferris State University women's golf team came away at
this weekend's (Oct. 3-4) Grand Valley State Laker Classic as the
Bulldogs turned in a team tournament-best 314 final round to
register a two-round 640 team total (+64) on the par 72, 6,010-yard

final-round score in Monday's (Oct. 4) action moved them up one
spot as the Bulldogs concluded opening-round play on Sunday (Oct.
3) with a 38-over par 326 team stroke total... Sophomore Ashley
Swanson (Flushing/Flint Powers Catholic Central) turned in Ferris
State's best score with a 157 (83-74=157, +13) to tie five others
for 18th place. The top-20 effort marked a season best for
Swanson, who was making only her second tournament appearance of
the fall season. Erin Fuchik (Tulsa, Okla./Bishop Kelley)
followed up Swanson as the FSU junior took 24th-place honors by
firing a 159 score (77-82=159, +15)... Ferris State will now gear
up for its final tournament of the 2010 fall season this weekend
(Oct. 9-10) when the Bulldogs compete in the Findlay William "Bing"
Beall Classic at the Sycamore Springs Golf Club in Arlington,
Ohio.
Findlay - The University of Findlay women’s
golf team finished the Grand Valley State University Invitational
in a tie for ninth place with the University of Indianapolis on
Monday, October 4 in Allendale, Michigan. The Oilers shot a two-day
score of 648 (327, 321) at the event... Brooke Albers led the way
by tying for ninth with a 153 (77, 76) while Ashley Gubser (78, 76
– 154) tied for 12th... Andrea Vogt (81, 80 – 161) and
Trelyn Gerlinger (91, 96 – 187) also competed for Findlay at
the event... The Oilers will be back in action again on Saturday
when they host the Bing-Beall Classic at the Sycamore Springs Golf
Course in Arlington, Ohio.
Grand Valley State - GVSU finished fourth at the
Laker Fall Classic, hosted in Allendale on Sunday and Monday,
recording a team score of 633 (+57)…a pair of Lakers placed
in the top-10. Senior Allie Tyler (Grand Rapids, Mich.) tied for
seventh with a total of 152 (+8), as she shot 73-79 over the two
days. Junior Sarah Hoffman (Saline, Mich.) tied for ninth place
with a 153 (+9) by shooting 79-74…sophomore Ashley Beard
(Williston, ND) used scores of 78-85 for a 163 (+19), tying her for
34th place, while freshman Veronica Ryan (Dallas, Tex.) was two
strokes behind Beard with a 165 (+21), tying her for 36th place.
Ryan shot 82-83…sophomore Marni Weinstein (Farmington Hills,
Mich.) came in 58th place with a 175 (+31) by shooting
86-89…the Lakers compete at the Bing Beall Classic in
Findlay, Ohio this weekend (Oct. 9-10).
Lake Erie Storm - The Storm were idle last week,
but return to action at the Bing-Beall Classic at the Sycamore
Springs Golf Course in Arlington, Ohio on Oct. 9-10.
Lake Superior State - Freshmen Dayna Drewes
(Rochester, Mich.) and Samantha Gubbins (Lake City, Mich.) shot 85s
during Monday’s second round for LSSU, which finished 13th
among 14 teams at the Grand Valley State Fall Classic in Allendale.
Drewes fired an 87-85—172 to tie for 53rd place and lead LSSU
on the GVSU course, which was set up as a preview for the 2011 D-II
Championship. Gubbins was 62nd with a 96-85—181, while
freshman Amanda Garcia (Yuma, Ariz.) was 65th with a
93-93—186. Drewes has LSSU’s low average of 88.3,
followed by Gubbins at 89.0. The Lakers compete Oct. 10-11 at
Findlay.
Northwood - The Northwood University women's golf
team finished 11th at the Laker Fall Classic Monday afternoon
(October 4)... The two-day, 36-hole event was held at The Meadows
on the campus of Grand Valley State University. The course played
as a par-72 at 6,010 yards... Playing against a strong field from
all of the country, the Timberwolves shot scores of 341 and 345 to
finish at 686. The top six teams in the event are all ranked in the
top-25 nationally. The winner was third-ranked Florida Southern at
600 (305-295)...Lauren Lenkowski (Batavia, Ill.) led the way for
Northwood. She shot 86-83 to finish tied for 46th overall. Amee Cox
(Liverpool, England) was one stroke behind Lenkowski at 170
(78-92)... Northwood will finish the fall season at Findlay October
9-10.
Ohio Dominican Panthers - The Panthers were idle
last week, but return to action at the Bing-Beall Classic at the
Sycamore Springs Golf Course in Arlington, Ohio on Oct.
9-10.
Tiffin - Tiffin University's women's golf team
finished 14th at the Laker Invitational hosted by Grand Valley
State University, shooting 385 in the opening round and following
it with a 401 in the second round to finish with 786... The Dragons
were handicapped in round two as Kahla Bernacchi had to withdraw
after shooting a 95 in round one. Bernacchi's opening round 95 was
second on the team on day one... Abby Martin led TU with a
92-95-187 while Stephanie Templeman was right behind with a
98-92-190. Templeman's second-round 92 was tops for TU on day
two... Amanda Orr finished with 205 and Allison Soviak brought up
the rear with 222.
