GVSU's Langton Chosen As GLIAC Women's Golf "Athlete of the Week"

Bay City, Mich. -- Grand Valley State University sophomore Kristina Langton has been chosen as the GLIAC Women's Golf "Athlete of the Week" it was announced by the conference office.

Grand Valley State University sophomore Kristina Langton led Grand Valley State to a seventh-place finish in the 16-team, Division I laden field at the University of South Florida Waterlefe Invitational. She finished in a tie for eighth with an even par 144, carding a one-under par 71, followed by a 73 on day two. Langton led the tournament in par five scoring (-4), ranked fourth in birdies (6), and was fifth in par four scoring (+1).

Ashland - Ashland recorded its second straight top-three finish when it placed second at the 10-time Gannon Fall Invitational last weekend. The Eagles had a team score of 653. Only California (Pa.) (624) finished in front of AU. Sophomore Ann Miles (Dublin, OH/Bishop Watterson) finished in a tie for fourth. She shot 161, 10 strokes behind medalist Sophie Hufnagel of Cal. Senior Stephanie Schwertner (Massillon, OH/Canton Central Catholic) was seventh and freshman Erin Misheff (Silver Lake, OH/Walsh Jesuit) was eighth. Senior Janice Greenblatt (Copley, OH) tied for 10th.

Ferris State - Freshmen Blaize Baumgartner (Perry) and Brooke Rodes (Traverse City/West) claimed the top two individual placings at Saturday's (Oct. 4) Siena Heights Invitational in leading the nationally-ranked Ferris State women's golf team to a first place with an 18-hole 358-stroke total on the par 72, 5,805-yard Tecumseh (Mich.) Country Club...For the third consecutive time to date this fall, the nationally-ranked Ferris State women's golf team captured top team honors as the Bulldogs carded a first-place 621 team score Tuesday (Oct. 7) at the Detroit Titans Invitational in Redford, Mich. Senior Meghan Hunter (Dexter) led the Bulldogs with a second-place 152 score (75-77=152).

Findlay - The Oilers wrapped up their fall season with a fourth place finish at the Gannon Invitational...Sophomore Andrea Vogt led the team by tying for eighth place with a 164 (79, 85) while freshman Jacqueline Sublette was 16th with a 170 (87, 83).

Grand Valley State - Grand Valley State finished seventh in a 16-team Division I laden field at the University of South Florida Waterlefe Invitational in Tampa, Florida. The Lakers shot a 36-hole score of 601 in the rain-shortened event. Sophomore Kristina Langton (Ada, Mich./Catholic Central) finished in a tie for eighth with an even par 144 at the South Florida Waterlefe Invitational. Langton shot a one-under par 71, followed by a 73 on day two. Sophomore Allie Tyler (Grand Rapids, Mich./Forest Hills Central) shot an opening round 70, followed by a 77 for a two-round total of 147 (T-14th). Ashley Smith (Plymouth, Mich./Salem) tied for 30th with a 152 (78-74)...Langton led the tournament in par five scoring (-4), ranked fourth in birdies (6) and was fifth in par four scoring (+1).

Northwood - The Northwood University women's golf team finished fifth out of 10 teams at the Gannon Fall Invitational Sunday afternoon (October 5). The Timberwolves shot team scores of 348 and 344 to finish at 692. California (Pa.) was the overall winner at 624, followed by Ashland at 653. Paige Molnar (Corunna, Mich.) led the way for the Timberwolves, shooting rounds of 84-84 to finish 14th overall. Lotte Voermans (Tilburg, Netherlands) finished at 170 (83-87) to tie for 16th overall. The Timberwolves have now completed the fall portion of their schedule.

Tiffin - The Dragons did not participate in any tournaments this past week.
