The 2010-11 Capital One Academic All-District Women's Basketball Team Includes Two GLIAC Student-Athletes

BAY CITY, Mich. - When the 2010-11 CoSIDA/Capital One Academic All-District Teams for women's basketball were announced by the Academic All-America® Committee, it included two Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) student-athletes. Pam Wilson (Grand Blanc, Mich.) of Northwood University and Lucy Dernovsek (Holcombe, Wis./Lake Holcombe) of Michigan Technological University are the student-athletes who earned the award.

Wilson has been named First Team Academic All-District by CoSIDA. Wilson is the 2010-11 GLIAC Preseason Player of the Year, and she currently leads the GLIAC in scoring (17.2 ppg) while ranking second in rebounding (9.7 rpg). She has led NU in scoring 10 times while leading the team in rebounding 14 times. Wilson has registered nine double-doubles this season and 13 for his career. She ranks ninth in school history with 1,170 points and 14th with 505 rebounds, standing as one of only six players in school history with 1,000 points and 500 rebounds.

Dernovsek was selected to the Academic All-District IV College Division Second Team. Dernovsek leads the No. 8-ranked MTU women’s basketball team in scoring (12.1), rebounding (8.3) and blocks (2.1). The 5-11 forward has helped the Huskies win 15 of their last 16 games with six double-doubles during that span. She is among the top five players in the GLIAC in rebounds, blocks, 3-point percentage (44.8) and assist-to-turnover ratio (1.6-to-1). Dernovsek is a senior business administration major with a 3.88 cumulative GPA.

The 2010-11 Capital One Academic All-District ® Men’s Basketball Teams, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America, have been released to recognize the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performance on the floor and in the classroom.

The Academic All-District ® teams include the student-athletes listed on the following pages and are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada.  The University Division team includes NCAA Division I participants, while the College Division team combines NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, NAIA, Canadian and two-year schools.

First-team Academic All-District ® honorees advance to the national Capital One Academic All-America® Team ballot, where First, Second and Third Team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.
