MTU Claims 2010 GLIAC Women's Basketball Championship; GLIAC Tournament Field Set
BAY CITY, Mich. - The Huskies of Michigan Technological University claimed the 2010 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) women's basketball championship by recording the league's best record in conference play, which concludes today.
Michigan Tech claimed the GLIAC's North Division title and
overall league crown by posting a 20-2 conference record this
season, finishing four games ahead of second-place Northern
Michigan University (16-6). The Huskies, now with a
25-2 overall record this season, take the No. 1 seed into the GLIAC
Women's Basketball Tournament, which gets underway on Tuesday (Mar.
2) with quarterfinal action. MTU will host the No. 8 seed,
Northwood University (13-13, 9-13 GLIAC, on
Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.

The No. 2 seed, Northern Michigan, will host the No. 7 seed, Ashland University (14-13, 10-12 GLIAC), in Marquette (Mich.) on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. Third-seeded Grand Valley State University (18-9, 15-7 GLIAC) will host the No. 6 seed, Lake Superior State University (14-12, 11-11 GLIAC), in Allendale (Mich.) at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
The final GLIAC Tournament Quarterfinal matchup features the South Division title winner, the University of Findlay (20-7, 15-7 GLIAC), and Hillsdale College (14-12, 14-8 GLIAC). The Oilers, seeded fourth in the tournament, will host the Chargers, the No. 5 seed, on Tuesday at 6:00 p.m.
The GLIAC Tournament Semifinals and Final will he held at the highest remaining seed after the Quarterfinals on Friday, Mar. 5 and Saturday, Mar. 6. The winner of the GLIAC Tournament receives and automatic bid to the NCAA Division Midwest Region Tournament.
