Michigan Tech, Northern Michigan & Findlay Advance in Women's Basketball Regional
HOUGHTON, Mich. - Three Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) teams picked up victories in the first round of the NCAA Division II Midwest Region Women's Basketball Tournament hosted by top-seed Michigan Technological University at the SDC Gymnasium in Houghton, Mich.
Regional play opened with No. 3 seed Drury University (Mo.) downing GLVC rival Southern Indiana (No. 6), 71-48. In the second quarterfinal game, seventh-seeded Northern Michigan University upset the No. 2 seed, University of Indianapolis, 52-51.
Host Michigan Tech opened the second session with a 69-49 win over the No. 8 seed, Northern Kentucky University. The fourth quarterfinal game, delayed until Saturday (Mar. 13) due to travel issues, was won by fifth-seeded University of Findlay, which claimed a 54-51 win over the University of Wisconsin-Parkside (No. 5).
Sunday's Midwest Region semifinal games feature No. 3 Drury and No. 7 Northern Michigan squaring off at 1:30 p.m., followed by No. 1 Michigan Tech facing No. 5 Findlay at 4:00 p.m.
