BEAVERTON, Ore. — Hillsdale
College senior Katie Cezat has been named the 2009
Women’s Division II Bulletin Player of the Year, the
publication announced today.
Cezat averaged 29.3 points and 16.8 rebounds per game, while
leading the nation with 100 blocked shots and 333 field goals made.
She was second in the nation in scoring average, finishing with 908
total points, and led the Chargers to a 27-4 record and a GLIAC
championship.
Her 521 rebounds are the second-most in a single season in Division
II history, and she set a new national record with 28
double-doubles this season.
“Statistically, Katie dominated on both ends of the court and
was practically unstoppable this season,” said WDIIB editor
Gary Rubin. “There were many outstanding candidates for this
award but Katie stood out. She is most deserving.”
Cezat headlines the 2009 WDIIB All-American team, where she was
joined on the first team by West Texas A&M’s Emily
Brister, Franklin Pierce’s Johanna Leedham, Rebecca
Kielpinski of Alaska Anchorage and Wingate senior Anna
Atkinson.
Women's Division II Bulletin, the leading publication covering
Division II women's basketball, has selected a Player of the Year
every season since 1993. It is published by GSR Communications
based in Beaverton, Ore.
