LSSU's Jaclyn Armstrong Named ESPN The Magazine Women's Basketball Academic All-American

SAULT STE. MARIE - Lake Superior State senior
Jaclyn Armstrong was named to the 2009 ESPN "The Magazine" Academic
All-America Second Team. She was the only member of the Great Lakes
Intercollegiate Athletic Conference to be recognized.
Armstrong, who carries a 3.94 grade point average while majoring in
exercise science, is the No. 2 scorer in the GLIAC. She averages
17.9 points and 5.8 rebounds per game. She has scored 20 or more
points in 12 games this season, including a career-high 30 against
Tiffin on Feb. 12. She has recorded five double doubles this season
and is ranked ninth in career scoring at LSSU with 1,389
points.
The College Division Academic All-American of the Year was senior
Emily Brister of West Texas A&M. The first team also included
senior Anna Atkinson of Wingate, senior Megan Scheele of Edgewood,
junior Julia Hirssig of Wisconsin-Stout and senior Laura Marquardt
of Newberry.
In addition to Armstrong, the College Division second team included
senor LeighAnn Burke of De Sales, senior Krista Prato Matthews of
Trinity, senior Jessica Keller of Quincy, senior Melanie Auguste of
Colorado College and junior Haylee Allen of Hardin-Simmons. Members
of the third team were junior Jessica Romano of Philadelphia,
senior Nicole Hayman of Chapman, senior Alira Carpenter of Montana
State-Billings and senior Bridget Yoerger of South Dakota.
Graduate student Amber Guffey of Murray State was the University
Division Academic All-American of the Year.
