TIFFIN, Ohio - One mission is accomplished. Now the postseason looms. Tiffin University's softball team (35-12, 26-6 GLIAC, .812) wrapped up the regular season GLIAC title, sweeping Findlay in their regular season finale 9-2 and 9-1 in 6 innings. They finish in sole possession of first place over Ashland, which swept Wayne State in their finale to finish with a 21-7 mark (.750).
Now the Dragons will prepare for the GLIAC tournament May 6-8 at
Midland, Michigan, entering as the top seed. Down the road, the
prospect of NCAA regional play also has the team excited.
After posting a big four-game sweep of the Eagles over the last two
days, one wondered if the Dragons would take on Findlay with the
same level of intensity they showed against Ashland. Tied 2-2 in
the fifth inning of game one, the Dragons answered that question,
dropping 7 runs on the Oilers to bust the game open.
Tiffany
Smith had 3 hits with a double, while Amanda
Temple had a double and triple. Meagan
Baird also added a two-run double, giving starter Amber
Young more than enough support as she improved to 11-4 on the
year.
Young allowed just 4 hits and 1 earned run while fanning 6 over 7
innings, pitching out of trouble numerous times due to 4 walks.
In the nightcap, Mindy
Meredith upped her record to 14-3, allowing no earned runs over
6 innings and scattering 6 hits. Again, the Dragons' offense got
the job done, rapping out 12 hits and scoring multiple runs in four
of the six frames.
Stephanie Bobotas had 3 hits, while Smith cracked 4 more hits with a double and home run, giving her 7 hits in the twinbill. Temple also drove in 3 runs with another home run.
