Wayne State Climbs to Eighth in Latest NCFA Division II Poll
STARKVILLE, Miss. – Wayne State University jumped one place, landing at No. 8 in the latest National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division II Poll.

Wayne State had a 6-2 overall record last week to equal the school record for wins a season (43) set in 1993. Senior left fielder Stephanie LeClair (Kitchener, Ont. / Forest Heights C.I.) and redshirt freshman catcher Brittany Omelanchuk (Brooklin, Ont. / Wilson S.S.) each batted .400 last week. LeClair (10-for-25) had five RBI and two stolen bases while recording the game-winning RBI in the win at Tiffin. Omelanchuk (8-for-20), had a hit in all six games to extend her hitting streak to 11 straight. She also had a team-best seven RBI including a two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth in the 3-2 win over Ferris State. Senior pitcher Nicole Abel (Kitchener, Ont. / St. Mary’s) pitched 16 scoreless innings last week, throwing a three-hit shutout at Detroit Mercy in which she struck out a career-high 12 batters. Freshman center fielder Steph Foreman (Cambridge, Ont. / Preston) had a hit in all eight contests to extend her hitting streak to 11 games, batting .308 (8-for-26) for the week. Senior pitcher Casey Hanes (Richmond, Va. / Douglas Freeman) struck out 39 batters last week to become WSU’s all-time strikeout king.
