Wayne State and SVSU Ranked in Latest NCFA Division II Poll
STARKVILLE, Miss. – The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has two teams ranked in the latest National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division II . Both Wayne State University (No. 5) and Saginaw Valley State University (No. 13) are ranked among the best Division II squads.
Wayne State, now 11-2 on the season, moved up 15 places from the
NFCA Preseason Poll to the first weekly poll released by the
NFCA.
The Warriors compiled a 4-2 mark at the Decatur Chillout in
Decatur, Ala. the weekend of Feb. 19-21. One of WSU's two setbacks
was a nine-inning affair against now No. 1 ranked-North Georgia
(13-0).
Last weekend, WSU ventured to Salisbury, N.C., and won the Catawba
Invitational with a 7-0 mark which included two extra-inning
victories over Armstrong Atlantic. Wayne State has won all six
in-region contests this season.
The Warriors resume action at the Rebel Spring Games on Saturday,
March 13 when they face two in-region opponents in Minnesota
State-Mankato and Quincy.
SVSU will open the season against Georgian Court on March 5 at 3:00 pm. The Cardinals will play three teams that are ranked in the pre-season Top 25. SVSU will play defending Division II National Champion, Lock Haven, as well as Indianapolis, the team which knocked SVSU out in the Midwest Super Regional’s in 2009 and California (Pa.). Saginaw Valley will also battle with Division I South Dakota during their trip to the Rebel Spring Games in Florida, which is where the Cardinals will play their first 17 games of the season.
