Ashland Univeristy's Brock Weaver Named GLIAC Men's Cross Country "Runner of the Week"

BAY CITY, Mich. - Ashland University junior Brock Weaver (Ashland, Ohio) was named the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) men's cross country "Runner of the Week" after placing second at the College of Wooster Fighting Scots Festival.

Ashland’s Brock Weaver finished second last Friday (Oct. 22) at the College of Wooster Fighting Scots Festival. Weaver completed the five miles in 25:21.00. The only runner with a better time was Edinboro’s Ben Hahn (25:18.00). Ashland was second out of four teams at Wooster. Edinboro won the team title. This was Weaver’s second top two finish of the year – he won the individual championship at the Oberlin Invitational.
Ashland - Ashland ran at the College of
Wooster Fighting Scots Festival last Friday (Oct. 22). The
Eagles finished second with 33 points. Edinboro (25 points)
won the team crown. Findlay (71) was third and Wooster (110)
was fourth. Junior Brock Weaver (Ashland, Ohio) was the
individual runner-up. His time on the five-mile course was
25:21.00. The individual champ was Edinboro’s Ben Hahn
(25:18.00). Junior Matt Stratman (Chardon, Ohio) was fourth
in 25:47.00 and junior Cameron Johnson (Mt. Gilead, Ohio) was fifth
in 25:48.00. Junior Tom Scott (Lima, Ohio/Shawnee) was ninth
in 26:22.0. The Eagles do not run this week.
Ferris State - The Ferris State University
men’s cross country team sent selected student-athletes to
the Eastern Michigan Classic on Saturday (Oct. 23) at Hudson Mills
Metropark in Dexter, Mich. The non-scoring field included
student-athletes from schools such as Michigan, Michigan State,
Ferris, Hillsdale, Saginaw Valley State, Toledo, and others. On the
men’s side, sophomore Ryan Chute (Waterford/Mott) took 13th
place (15:48.7), sophomore Michael Schulte (Weidman/Mt. Pleasant
Sacred Heart) was 23rd (16:10.2), freshman Dakota Cooper (Hesperia)
placed 52nd (17:10.4) while sophomore Jordan Slate (Hesperia)
finished 55th (17:18.4) in the 86-runner field. Ferris State will
next take part in the 2010 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic
Conference (GLIAC) Championships on Saturday, Nov. 6, in Hillsdale,
Mich
Findlay - The University of Findlay men’s
and women’s cross country teams both placed third at the 2010
Wooster Cross Country Festival on Friday, October 22 in Wooster,
Ohio. The men finished the event with 71 points while the women had
73 points. On the men’s side, Justin Eilerman and
Shoayb Bascal led the way by finishing 11th and 12th, respectively.
Eilerman ran a time of 26:37 while Bascal crossed the finish line
in 26:39. Jordan Kirwen (26:45) placed 14th, Tim Majoy (26:54) took
15th and Brock Lloyd (27:10) finished 19th to round out the top-20
placers for the Oilers. Luis Velasco also ran for Findlay,
finishing 35th at 29:53. The Oilers will be back in action
again on November 6 at the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic
Conference (GLIAC) Championship in Hillsdale, Michigan.
Grand Valley State - Grand Valley went idle last

Lake Erie - The Lake Erie College
men’s cross country teams returned to the course for the
first time in three weeks on Saturday (Oct. 23), running against
Tiffin University in an unscored 5,000-meter tune-up for the Great
Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Championships on
Nov. 6. While the main purpose of the race was prepatory,
there were some impressive results, as the Storm more than held
their own against the 22nd-ranked Dragons. Sophomore Cody
Lancaster (Eastlake, Ohio/Eastlake North) set the men’s
school record in the 5K, recording the fourth fastest time on the
day at 16:01, just seconds behind Tiffin’s top three.
In addition, freshman Nick Clad (Eastlake, Ohio/Eastlake North)
finished the course in 16:50 sand sophomore Craig Gerber (Fremont,
Ohio/Clyde) was just behind him at 16:51. The Storm will have
one more week of training before heading to Hillsdale, Mich. to
compete in its first conference championship meet.
Lake Superior State - Lake Superior State’s Lucas Pease (Bellevue, Mich.), Taylor Heath (Sand Lake, Mich.) and Mark List (Lansing, Mich.) recorded top-10 finishes at the Upper Peninsula Championships hosted by Northern Michigan on Friday. Pease was fifth overall and third among team scorers with a time of 27:16.6. Heath finished sixth overall in 27:27, while List was ninth in 27:58.1.For scoring purposes, junior Mackenzie Oglesby (Schodack Landing, N.Y.) and junior Sean Vardy (Sault Ste. Marie, Mich.) also finished in the top 10. They were 12th and 13th overall. LSSU placed second among three teams. The Lakers close out the season Nov. 6 at the GLIAC Championships.
Michigan Tech - The Michigan Tech cross country
teams won both individual and team titles at the UP Collegiate
Championships Friday (Oct. 22). Brian Stetter finished first
in the men’s eight-kilometer race (26:31). The win was
the third this year for Stetter. The men finished first
of three teams while the women were first of four teams. Tech will
close out the season Nov. 6 at the GLIAC Championships.
Northwood - The Northwood University cross
country teams competed at the EMU Fall Classic Saturday afternoon
(October 23). No team scoring was taken at the event, which
was held at the Hudson Mills Metropark. Michael Beard led the
way for the men’s team. He clocked a time of 15:48.4 on the
5K course to finish 13th overall. Freshman Marcus Rogers (Howell,
Mich./Pinckney) was 26th with a time of 16:16.7. Eighty-seven
runners competed in the men’s 5K event. Northwood will
competed at the GLIAC Championships November 6.
Ohio Dominican - The Panthers went idle last week. Watch them run next at the GLIAC championship on Nov. 6 in Hillsdale, Mich.
Saginaw Valley State - The Saginaw Valley State University men’s cross country team competed Saturday (Oct. 23) in the Eastern Michigan University Classic. The Cardinals held their own in a very competitive field of runners and were led by senior Jeff Wilson who placed fourth overall with a final 5K time of 15:36.0. Following Wilson was sophomore teammate Tyler Noble who clocked in at 15:52.3, good enough for 16th place. Coming in behind Noble was junior runner Jonathan Wetters who crossed the line at 16:19.0. Filling in the last two spots in SVSU’s top-five were freshmen Chad Scott and Matt Kabacinski clocking in at 16:25.2 and 16:27.4, respectively. Saginaw Valley will be back in action again Saturday (Nov. 6) as they travel to Hillsdale College to compete in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Cross Country Championships.
Tiffin - Tiffin University and Lake Erie College
competed at the Tiffin University Tune-up on Homecoming weekend in
an unscored meet. The Dragons, ranked third in the Midwest
Region, posted the best times amongst the men’s and
women’s scores. Jeremy Lee posted the top time in the
men’s race in 15:48, followed closely by Dominique
O’Neill in 15:52 and Kyle Faerber in 15:58. The
men’s cross country teams return to action in two weeks (Nov.
6) when they compete at the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic
Conference meet hosted by Hillsdale.
Wayne State - The Wayne State men’s cross
country team put in a flawless performance at the Mercyhurst-Gannon
XC Invitational, placing 12 runners in the first 16 spots to win
its second event of the season. Eight WSU runners were present in
the top 10, including four in the first four positions. Alex
Townsend (26:22.1) took home first-place honors. Following him was
Kevin deBear (2nd-26:42.6), Travis Barczak (3rd-26:52.2) and Dan
Kapadia (4th-26:57.1). Saeed Saleh tackled a seventh-place mark in
27:22.4, while Nicholas Jackson (27.27.0), Pat Webster (27.29.9),
Phil Baldick (27:35.8), and Phil Kosky (27.38.7) rounded out the
next four places in order. As Doug Mack came away with a 13th place
finish in 27.54.4, Jimmy Maloney (15th-28:15.5) and Jason Smith
(16th-28:16.3) were right behind him. Brad Vincent posted a time of
28:53.3 to finish in 23rd place and Abdu Hadarah tallied a 31st
place mark in 29:25.5. Adham Aljahmi ended the day in 51st place
(32:07.9). Wayne State will next run at the GLIAC Championships
hosted by Hillsdale College on November 6.
