GVSU's Joe Lynn Named USTFCCCA Men's Outdoor Track & Field "Assistant Coach of the Year"

New Orleans, La. - Grand Valley State's assistant coach Joe Lynn was honored by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) on Friday (June 4) with the National Men's Assistant Coach of the Year award. Lynn's distance crew accounted for three of the Lakers' entries for the NCAA Championships, two of which were in the steeplechase. GVSU's Tyler Emmorey went on to earn all-american honors with a sixth place finish in the steeplechase at the national meet.
Lynn, in his fourth year, lead his distance athletes to 88 points in helping the Lakers to a second place finish at the 2010 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) meet. GVSU swept the top three spots in the steeplechase and took the 1-2-4-5-6 spots in the 5000-meter run at the conference meet.
Lynn also works with the women's team and had 10 distance athletes qualify for the national meet. Monica Kinney scored 13 points for the Lakers with a second place finish in the 1500-meter run and a fourth place finish in the 5000-meter run.
