Bay City, Mich. -- Grand Valley State's Bill Makela (Brighton, Mich.) and Findlay's James Eric (Beavercreek, Ohio) have been named the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Men's Outdoor Track and Field "Athletes of the Week", respectively as announced by the league office.

Track Athlete of the Week
Bill Makela ~ Grand Valley State University
Senior ~ Brighton, Mich.
Senior Bill Makela took first place in the 400-meter
hurdles at the Tennessee State Boston-Moon Classic on Saturday and
bettered his previous provisional time. Makela’s time of
53.19 seconds improved on his previous time and provisionally
qualifies him for the NCAA Division II Outdoor National
Championships.
Field Athlete of the Week
James Eric ~ University of Findlay
Senior ~ Beavercreek, Ohio
Senior James Eric of The University of Findlay men’s
outdoor track and field team placed fifth in the hammer throw
invitational at the Sea Ray Relays in Knoxville, Tennessee on
Saturday, April 11. Eric posted a mark of 197’05 to claim
fifth in the elite competition.
