Ashland Eagles

Men: Ashland got the indoor season started last Friday and Saturday at Findlay’s Oiler Open. Junior Kurt Roberts (Lancaster, OH/Athens) brought home the gold medal in the shot put (59-10.5). AU placed two other athletes in the top five in the event. Senior Blaine Maag (Columbus Grove, OH) was fourth (54-10) and junior Chris Sniadecki (Sandusky, OH/Anthony Wayne) was fifth (52-3.25). Maag was also third in the weight throw (61-9). Sophomore Nate Cooper (Ashland, OH) was third in the triple jump (43-8.50) and fourth in the long jump (21-8). Freshman Richard Quick (Springfield, OH/Springfield North) finished fourth in the weight throw (61-2).
AU will compete at Kent State this coming weekend (Dec. 11-12).

Women: The Eagles opened the season last Friday and Saturday at Findlay’s Oiler Open. Junior Steph Tinney (Norwalk, OH/Western Reserve) led the field in the 800 meters, crossing the finish line in 2:18.85. Sophomore Kelly Ash (Coshocton, OH) was fourth in both the shot (44-5.25) and weight throw (55-2). Freshman Karissa Dalesandro (Smithville, OH) was fourth in the 60 hurdles (9.19). The Eagles will compete at Kent State Dec. 11-12.

 

Ferris State Bulldogs

The Ferris State University indoor track and field teams open their season on Friday, January 15 when they travel to Saginaw Valley State for the Doug Hanson Open.

 

 

 

 

Findlay Oilers

Men: The University of Findlay men’s and women’s indoor track and field teams wrapped up their annual Oiler Opener on Saturday, December 5. On the men’s side, Curtis Smithey had a hand in a pair of wins for the Oilers as he took home the gold in the 300-meter dash at 34.98 and teamed with Shawnathan Fort, Simon Bernard and Scott Werner to win the 4x400 meter relay with a time of 3:24.44. John Guagenti won the 400-meter dash with a NCAA provisional time of 48.87 and was followed by Smithey who finished second in the event with a provisional mark of 49.12. The Oilers 4x400 meter relay team of Greg Schaible, Erik Birkholz, Colin Walthour and Guagenti took second in their event at 3:25.23 while Derrick Vicars finished third in the shot put with a school record breaking and NCAA provisional mark of 55’01.50. Schaible was third in the 300-meter dash at 36.20, Bernard took third in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:59.84, Lucas Horstman finished with the bronze in the 60-meter hurdles at 8.56 and Lyndon Johnson placed third in the 200-meter dash after crossing the finish line in 22.56.

Women: The University of Findlay men’s and women’s indoor track and field teams wrapped up their annual Oiler Opener on Saturday, December 5. On the women’s side, Lindsey Schmitmeyer was second in the 800-meter run at 2:19.72 while Raven Clay placed fourth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.78. Clay was also second in the 60-meter hurdles with a NCAA provisional qualifying time of 8.66. Jhazmyn Anderson added a fourth place finish in the 400-meter dash at 1:00.26. The Oilers will be back in action again on January 8 at the Buckeye Classic in Columbus, Ohio.

 

Grand Valley State Lakers

The Grand Valley State University indoor track and field teams open their season on Thursday, December 17 when they host the GVSU Holiday Open.

 

 

 

 

Hillsdale Chargers

Men: The Hillsdale College men's and women's indoor track teams participated in their first meet of the 2009-10 season last weekend, and the only one before the start of the new calendar year. Many areas of strength of the track program last year picked up right where they left off at the beginning of this season. The team's weight throwers have accumulated many All-Conference and All-American honors in recent years, and Jason Stomps and Aaron Falk showed no rust in their games over the weekend. They finished 1-2 in the men's weight throw, with Stomps' mark of 67 feet, 5 inches taking first place. Falk's best throw measured at 66-5. Senior sprinter Jared Krout took first in the long jump (22-3) and the 200 meter dash (22.06).

Women: The Hillsdale College men's and women's indoor track teams participated in their first meet of the 2009-10 season last weekend, and the only one before the start of the new calendar year. Highlighting the women's side of the meet, freshman Cathryn Humphries took second place in her first 200 meter dash of her career, with a time of 26.48. Jennifer Shaffer finished in third place in the 800 meter run (2:20.89), while Erin Brunko took second in the mile run, finishing the race in 5:10.19.

 

Lake Superior State Lakers

The Lake Superior State University  indoor track and field teams open their season on Saturday, January 16 when they host the Lake Superior Classic.

 

 

 

 

Northern Michigan Widcats

The NMU women’s indoor track and field team opened up the 2009-10 schedule Saturday at the St. Scholastica Min-Meet...Becky Rotter was second in the 300-meter dash (43.69)...Maegan Hendershot won the 600 run (1:49.48)...Catherine Angeli won the 55 dash (7.55)...Melissa Christensen won the 55 hurdles (8.88)...The 4x200 relay of Alyssa Ersparmer, Brittnee Balbierz, Christensen and Angeli won the event (1:51.92)...Erin Astle captured the high jump (4-11.75)...Karin Diebold won the pole vault (10-02.00)...Bailey Franklin won the triple jump (35-11.25)...Krista Squiers won the weight throw (56-08.75).

 

Northwood Timberwolves

The Northwood University indoor track and field teams open their season on Friday, December 11 when they travel to Saginaw Valley State for the SVSU Holiday Open.

 

 

Saginaw Valley State Cardinals

Mens: The Saginaw Valley State University men’s and women’s track teams competed in their first meet of the indoor season today (Dec. 4). On the men’s side there were four first place finishes, three second place finishes, and five third place finishes. Earning a first place was senior Scott Chevalier (Ann Arbor, Mich./Dexter HS) who finished with a final time of 6.95 in the 60-meter dash. Also placing first for the Cardinals was senior Tony Filipek (Caro, Mich./Kingston HS) crossing the line with a time of 1:54 in the 800-meter run. Placing first in the mile run was senior Charlie Richards (Goodrich, Mich./Goodrich HS) with a time of 4:21. The final first place finish was earned in the 3,000-meter run by senior Derek Stone (Metamora, Mich./Lapeer East HS) who timed in at 8:54.03. Following closely behind Stone was sophomore Derek Welmers (Standish, Mich./Standish-Sterling HS) who placed second in the 3,000-meter run clocking in at 8:54.58. Earning a tie for second place in the pole vault with a height of 4.26 meters was freshman Tyler Grob (Pinckney, Mich./Pinckney HS). Junior Aaron Wilkins (Schoolcraft, Mich./Schoolcraft HS) also earned a second place finish in the pentathlon scoring a total of 2,705 points. Finishing in third place, just behind Wilkins, in the pentathlon was junior Trevor Opalewski (St. Clair Shores, Mich./South Lake HS) who had 2,658 total points. Another third place finish went to sophomore Josh Zang (Berkley, Mich./Berkley HS) who timed in at 9:01 for the 3,000-meter run. Senior Brock Humphries (Shelby Twp., Mich./Utica Eisenhower HS) placed third overall in the 60-meter hurdles timing in at 9.27. The 4x400-meter relay team, consisting of Josh Arnold (Clio, Mich./Clio HS), Tony Filipek, Charlie Richards, and Scott Chevalier, earned a third place finish crossing the line with a final time of 3:31. Placing third overall in the weight throw was sophomore Brian Bott (Buckley, Mich./Kingsley HS) with a toss of 14.72 meters.

Womens: The Saginaw Valley State University men’s and women’s track teams competed in their first meet of the indoor season today (Dec. 4). On the women’s side there was one first place finish, three, second place finishes, and five third place finishes. Transfer Katie Scott (Mitchell, Ont./Mitchell District HS) earned the only first place finish for the Lady Cardinals in the 5,000-meter run with a final time of 18:27. Sophomore Ashley Meyer (Shepherd, Mich./Shepherd HS) earned Saginaw Valley a second place finish in the mile run timing in at 5:26. Earning two, second place finishes was transfer Elizabeth Wilford (Gladwin, Mich./Gladwin HS) who pole vaulted a height of 3.35 meters and scored a total of 2,640 points in the pentathlon. Finishing in third place, right behind Wilford, was junior Kelly Henris (Saginaw, Mich./Nouvel Catholic HS) totaling 2,557 points in the pentathlon. Junior Alycia Wright (Macomb, Mich./Lutheran North HS) placed third in the 800-meter run clocking in at 2:27. Finishing tied for third in the pole vault were Violet Whitney (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer HS) and Stacey Westphal (Corunna, Mich./Corunna HS) vaulting a height of 3.23 meters. Earning a third place finish in the shot put was freshman Chelsea Henderson (Ludington, Mich./Ludington HS) who threw 11.73 meters.

 

Tiffin Dragons

Mens: Tiffin University competed at the Oiler Opener on Dec. 4-5 to start their Indoor Track and Field season. The men’s team had a number of top performances, including two individual champions. Stephen Miles won the 800 meters with a time of 1:57.87 while Ramone Brant was the 60 meter hurdles champ with a time of 8.16. Other top finishers for the Dragons included Justin Ware in second place in the 300 meters (36.09), Jason Bumb second in the mile in 4:23.76, Travis LeFlore second in the high jump with 6-6, and Lee Miller second in the pole vault with 15-5. Bryon Toran (4th in 300), Deven Keane (5th in 300), Bumb (5th in 800), and Andrew Moore (5th in 60 hurdles) also had solid days.

Womens: Tiffin University competed at the Oiler Opener on Dec. 4-5 to start their Indoor Track and Field season. In the women’s meet, Carly Reese was the top finisher for TU, taking 5th in the mile in 5:20.24. Rebecca Miller was 6th in the mile. Megan Gill took 8th in the high jump with 5-2.25.
