GLIAC Tennis Teams Earn Berths In NCAA Midwest Regionals

INDIANAPOLIS - A total of six Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) teams will compete in NCAA Division Midwest Region men's and women's tennis tournaments next week.

Four GLIAC women's tennis teams are heading to the NCAA postseason, including Grand Valley State University, which earned the top seed in the Midwest Region.  The undefeated and 16th-ranked Lakers will face the winner of No. 4 Ferris State University and No. 5 Wayne State University, in a opening-round match played at GVSU on Monday (May 2).  The second round match will be play on Tuesday (May 3).

No. 2 Drury University (Mo.) will host third-seeded Northwood University at 10:00 am on Monday (May 2) in Springfield, Mo. The winner of that match, along with the winner of the second-round match at GVSU, will advance to the NCAA Championships, which will be held May 11-15 in Altamonte Springs, Fla.

On the men's side, Northwood is the fourth seed. NU will take on No. 5 seed Northern Kentucky in the opening round. That match is Sunday (May 1) at 11 a.m. The winner of that match will advance to face top-seeded Rockhurst Monday at 10 a.m. for the right to advance to the NCAA Championships.

Sixth-seeded Wayne State will face No. 3 University of Southern Indiana at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday (May 1) in its first-round match at Drury University.  If victorious, WSU would play the No. 2-seeded Panthers who received a first round bye.
