Wayne State Women, Grand Valley State Men Lead After Day Three of 2010 GLIAC Swimming & Diving Championships

DETROIT - Wayne State University women's and the Grand Valley State University men's teams lead heading into the final day of the 2010 GLIAC swimming & diving championships.

Wayne State women lead with 652 points going into the final day of competition. WSU collected five first place finishes today. Senior Elaina Hogle won the 400y individual medley and set the new GLIAC meet record (4:26.52). Senior Ashley St. Andrew placed first in the 200y freestyle, while junior Anna Gonzalez Pena won the 100y breaststroke. Sara Franklin, WSU junior, took first in the 100y backstroke while setting a new GLIAC meet record (56.38). The team of Hogle, St. Andrew, sophomore Stephanie Ekleberry, and freshman Ashley Corriveau claimed first in the 800y freestyle relay.

Grand Valley State women sit in second with 572 points. GVSU's sophomore Karen Verbrugge finished first in the women's 1m diving and set a new GLIAC meet record of 461.70.

Grand Valley State men's team tallied 550 points after day three of competition. Sophomore Raphael Santos claimed the Lakers' lone first place in the 100y backstroke.

Ashland University men sit second with 324 points.  Freshman Tyler Bailey finished first in the 200y freestyle, while teammate Cheyne Fisher claimed first in the 100y breaststroke.

Wayne State freshman Gallegos Abascal finished first in the 400y individual medley and set a new GLIAC meet record of 3:58.19.
