Tiffin's Michael O'Neill Named GLIAC Men's Soccer "Athlete of the Week"

BAY CITY, Mich. - Tiffin University sophomore midfielder Michael O'Neill (Luton, England) earned GLIAC Men's Soccer "Athlete of the Week" honors after leading the Dragons to a 2-0 week with three assists.

Sophomore midfielder Michael O’Neill led the Dragons with three assists in two matches last week, helping Tiffin to a pair of wins. He assisted on two goals, including the game-winner, in a 4-2 win at Shepherd (W.Va). He then assisted on the game-winner in the Dragons’ GLIAC-opening win over Findlay (2-0), improving to 4-1 (1-0 GLIAC) on the season.

Eagles (2-1-1, 0-0-0 GLIAC)
The Eagles were idle last week but return to action this week with a pair of matches vs. non-conference foes. Ashland will host future GLIAC member, Ohio Dominican University, on Monday (7:00 p.m.) before hosting GLVC rival, Northern Kentucky University, on Thursday (7:00 p.m.).
Findlay Oilers (2-3-0, 0-1-0 GLIAC)
The Oilers went 1-1 last week, winning 4-1 at Salem International and losing 2-0 to Tiffin at home…In the win over Salem International, junior Mate Farkas scored a pair of goals to lead the way…Sophomore Corey Keister also added a goal in the game as the Oilers scored another when Salem punched it in on their own net…In the loss to Tiffin, freshman Matthew Brooks picked up the loss by allowing both goals to go along with six saves.
Northwood Timberwolves (3-1-1, 0-0-1 GLIAC)
The Northwood men’s soccer team went 2-0-1 last week, defeating Urbana 3-0 and Olivet 1-0 before playing to a 1-1 draw against rival Saginaw Valley State ... the Timberwolves are now 3-1-1 overall on the season ... NU’s defense continued to play well early in the year - Northwood has now allowed three goals in five games so far this season ... SVSU’s goal in the first half of Sunday’s game broke a shutout streak for the Timberwolves of 314:48 ... NU has allowed one goal over the past four games after giving up a pair in the opener against Lewis ... Keith Lough (Edinburgh, Scotland) led the way for Northwood last week, finishing with a goal and a pair of assists ... keeper William Eberhardt (Depew, N.Y./Lancaster) had a pair of shutouts last week, giving him five for his career ... NU will travel to Findlay and Tiffin this week.
Saginaw Valley State Cardinals (1-2-2, 0-0-1
GLIAC)
The Saginaw Valley State University men’s soccer team defeated the St. Francis Cougars, 2-1, for their first win of the season, in their 2009 home opener…Senior Kevin Fox and junior Anthony Palazzolo both scored a goal while senior Ryan Seelhoff recorded an assist on the Palazzolo goal…The Cardinals would go on to tie Northwood University on Sunday (9/13), 1-1 in two overtimes. Seelhoff found the back of the net for the Cardinals’ only goal. Piotr Kazmierczak recorded nine saves for SVSU…Saginaw now stands at 1-2-2 overall and 0-0-1 in the GLIAC. SVSU will hit the road on Friday (9/18) to face Tiffin University before matching-up with the University of Findlay on Sunday (9/20).
Tiffin Dragons (2-1-0, 0-0-0 GLIAC)
Tony Iyayi and Roger Kummer also scored goals in TU’s 4-0 win at Ohio Valley, while Jeff Frisch and Scott Felgar worked 90 minutes in goal for the combined shutout…The Dragons spread around their offensive attack this week, as five different players had assists over two games. Chad Kulchar, Rabii Karanouh, Tyler Fabian, Nick Kutch, and Michael O’Neill all had assists…Ashton Campbell led the Dragons with three goals in two games this week. He netted two goals in a 4-0 win at Ohio Valley before scoring another goal that gave the Dragons the lead against 7th-ranked Tusculum in an eventual 3-2 overtime loss.
