Tiffin's Ashton Campbell Named GLIAC Men's Soccer "Athlete of the Week"

BAY CITY, Mich. - Tiffin University sophomore forword Ashton Campbell (Luton, Englandl) earned GLIAC Men's Soccer "Athlete of the Week" honors after leading the Dragons to a 1-1 week with three goals.

Sophomore forward Ashton Campbell led the Dragons to a 1-1 week with three goals in the two matches. He netted a pair of goals in a 4-0 win at Ohio Valley (W.Va.) before scoring another goal that gave the Dragons the lead against 7th-ranked Tusculum (Tenn.), in an eventual 3-2 overtime loss.

Ashland Eagles (2-1-1, 0-0-0 GLIAC)

The 19th-ranked Eagles had an up and down week. On Friday (Sept. 4), Ashland hosted fifth-ranked Tusculum. The two teams battled to a 2-2 tie in AU’s first home contest. Seniors James Livingston and Ross Ashley scored goals for the Eagles. Both goals were the players second on the season. Senior goalkeeper Blaize Lishewski earned his 100th career save during the match as he currently sits in fifth place on AU’s all-time list. On Sunday (Sept. 6), the Eagles hosted Notre Dame College and lost, 2-1, in overtime. Sophomore Kenny Hewitt scored his first goal of the season on a free kick with four minutes to go in the contest to tie the game. It was the first time since 2005 that the Eagles have played back-to-back overtime matches, and it was the first time since 1995 that the Eagles have played back-to-back overtime games at home. The Eagles next host Ohio Dominican on Monday (Sept. 14) at 7 p.m.

 

Findlay Oilers (1-2-0, 0-0-0 GLIAC)

The Oilers went 1-1 last week, winning 3-2 at Ohio Valley on September 4 and losing 1-0 to second ranked Northern Kentucky on September 6…In the win over Ohio Valley, senior B.J. Goodwin scored the Oilers first goal just 1:48 into the contest off of an assist by junior Brennan Williams…At the 18:14 mark, Williams then scored a goal of his own to give Findlay a 2-0 lead and freshman Kyle Pahren found the back of the net in unassisted fashion with only 1:32 elapsed in the final half…In the loss to second ranked Northern Kentucky, the Oilers defense held the Norse scoreless until the final ten minutes of the game when they scored off of a direct kick.

 

Northwood Timberwolves (1-1-0, 0-0-0 GLIAC)

The Northwood Men’s Soccer team did not play last week … the Timberwolves have a busy week coming up, playing Wednesday against Urbana (Ohio), Friday against Olivet (Mich.) and Sunday against Saginaw Valley State.

 

 

Saginaw Valley State Cardinals (0-2-1, 0-0-0 GLIAC)

The Saginaw Valley State University Men’s Soccer team dropped a 5-0 decision to John Carroll University on September 4. The loss pushes the Cardinals’ record to 0-2-1 on the season. SVSU hosts St. Francis (Ind.) on Tuesday (9/8) at 5:30 pm before traveling to play Northwood on Sunday, September 13 for a 2:30 pm contest.

 

Tiffin Dragons (2-1-0, 0-0-0 GLIAC)

Tony Iyayi and Roger Kummer also scored goals in TU’s 4-0 win at Ohio Valley, while Jeff Frisch and Scott Felgar worked 90 minutes in goal for the combined shutout…The Dragons spread around their offensive attack this week, as five different players had assists over two games. Chad Kulchar, Rabii Karanouh, Tyler Fabian, Nick Kutch, and Michael O’Neill all had assists…Ashton Campbell led the Dragons with three goals in two games this week. He netted two goals in a 4-0 win at Ohio Valley before scoring another goal that gave the Dragons the lead against 7th-ranked Tusculum in an eventual 3-2 overtime loss.
