Tiffin's Kummer Chosen As GLIAC Men's Soccer Player of the Week

Bay City, Mich. -- Tiffin University's Roger Kummer has been chosen as the GLIAC Men's Soccer Player of the Week it was announced by the league office.

Roger Kummer - Tiffin University

Tiffin University sophomore mid-fielder Roger Kummer played a strong role in the Dragons' 2-0 week. He opened the week assisting on the game-winning goal in the 47th minute as TU beat Saginaw Valley State, 1-0. Kummer then had a goal and two more assists in a 4-1 victory over Northwood. Roger assisted on the goal that put TU ahead to stay in the 23rd minute, then assisted on another in the 55th minute. He finished TU's scoring in the game with a goal in the 60th minute.

Ashland - Ashland continued its historic season, improving its overall record to 12-0 after a 2-1 victory over Notre Dame College on Wednesday (Oct. 8). Senior keeper Ryan Cruise kept the Eagles in the contest by making eight saves. Junior Ross Ashley scored his sixth goal of the season and freshman Kenny Hewitt added his third goal of the season. Senior Tom Rankin assisted on both goals to give him seven on the season in just 10 games. AU currently is first in the Midwest region, following the first rankings of the season. Ashland hosts Northern Kentucky on Tuesday (Oct. 14) at 7 p.m. in a match-up between two of the top teams in the region. The Eagles then travel to Northwood on Friday (Oct. 17) to continue GLIAC play at 4 p.m. On Sunday (Oct. 19), AU plays at Saginaw Valley State at 2:30 p.m.
Findlay - The Oilers split a pair of games last week, winning 3-1 over Northwood and losing 4-1 to Saginaw Valley State at home...Junior B.J. Goodwin scored a goal and dished out an assist during the week to give him two goals with four assists on the season...Sophomore Brennan Williams leads the team with six goals.
Northwood - Northwood men's soccer dropped a pair of games this past weekend...NU fell 3-1 against Findlay and lost 4-1 against Tiffin...Steve Hufstader scored both goals in both contests, giving him a team high five goals on the season...Northwood men's soccer hosts Ashland on Friday, October 17th, a 4 pm start.
Saginaw Valley State - The SVSU mens soccer team went 2-1 over the past week; with wins over Davenport and Findlay. Against Davenport, the Cardinals managed to find the back of the net on five different occasions. Senior Brent Walker (Owosso, Mich) had the magic working for the Cardinals, as he netted a hat trick. Walker found the net first in the 16th minute on a pass from Ryan Seelhoff (Owosso, Mich.) to give the Cardinals a 1-0 advantage. Walker would find the net one more time right before the half when he took a pass from Daniel Simms to give the Cardinals a 4-0 lead going into the half. Walker would net his third goal in the 53rd minute on an unassisted goal to move the score to 5-0. The SVSU men's soccer team faltered against Tiffin University Saturday afternoon (Oct. 10), as the Cardinals lost to the Dragons 1-0. The Cardinals got back to their winning ways by beating Findlay University 4-1 on Sunday. The Cardinals got on the board early when senior Walker dribbled the ball 30 yards and beat Oilers' goalkeeper Daryl Lotz. Later in the first half, Findlay had a penalty shot and connected to knot the score at 1-1. A mere 20 seconds later, the Cardinals got back on top when junior Vinny Vasilevski (Shelby Township, Mich./Utica Eisenhower HS) scored at the 41:26 mark to take SVSU to halftime with a one-goal lead. In the second half, the Cardinals extended their lead at the 56th minute mark when Larry Ferreira received the ball from Paul Gracyk and put it past Lotz. Vasilevski knotched his second goal of the game at the 64-minute mark to round out the game's scoring.
Tiffin - Rhys Cannella had a good week, scoring the gamewinner in a 1-0 decision over Saginaw Valley, then added another go-ahead goal against Northwood...Jeff Frisch got the shutout against the Cardinals, then played 81 more minutes against Northwood, allowing one goal...Adi Vlad had a goal and assist against the Timberwolves...Byron Kaverman had an assist off a corner kick to open the scoring against Northwood.
