Tiffin's Michael O'Neill Named GLIAC Men's Soccer "Player of the Week"

Bay City, Mich. --Tiffin University freshman mid-fielder Michael O'Neill has been chosen as the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Men's Soccer "Player of the Week" as announced by the conference office.

Freshman mid-fielder Michael O'Neill took over the team lead in points, scoring the game-winning goal in double overtime at Findlay in a 2-1 victory. O'Neill won a ball and shot from outside the box with 1:28 left in the second overtime for the win. Michael now leads TU with 16 points overall and is second in goals scored with 5. He is ranked in the top-10 in the GLIAC in six categories: shots (t-10th; 30), points (t-5th; 16), points per game (t-8th; 0.94), goals (t-9th; 5), assists (t-4th; 6), and assists per game (t-4th; 0.35).

Ashland - Ashland tied in its only contest of the week, finishing in a 1-1 draw against Davis & Elkins on Friday (Oct. 31). The Eagles finish the regular season with a record of 15-2-2, and 7-1 in the GLIAC. The 2008 team owns the school single-season record for victories, has won the GLIAC regular season crown and is ranked second in the region. Ashland, the 23rd ranked team in the nation, will host the GLIAC tournament starting Thursday (Nov. 6). AU will play in the second match on Thursday against Saginaw Valley State at 7:30 p.m.

Findlay - The Oilers lost their final game of the season 2-1 in double overtime to Tiffin at home on Saturday ...Sophomore Brennan Williams led the team with seven goals...Freshman Miles LeGros scored four and junior B.J. Goodwin registered two goals and a team-high four assists.

Northwood - Northwood Men's Soccer ended the regular season on a rough note...NU dropped a 5-0 contest to Saginaw Valley State on Sunday (11/2)...The Timberwolves will be facing Tiffin in the opening round of the GLIAC tournament on Thursday, November 6, at Ashland.

Saginaw Valley State - Saginaw Valley State University won one game and lost one game this week. In non-conference action, SVSU lost, 4-0 to visiting Madonna University (Mich.) on October 29. On November 1, the Cardinals shutout Northwood University, 5-0, with senior Larry Ferreira (London, Ont.) scoring two goals. Seniors John Pizanis (East Lansing, Mich.), Matt Wiegand (Dearborn, Mich.), and junior Colin Selhowski each scored a goal as well. Senior defender Daniel Wragg (Kirton Lindsey, England) had three assists against the Timberwolves. SVSU now has a 7-9-2 record overall, and are 2-6 in the GLIAC as they prepare to enter the GLIAC Tournament against Ashland University at 7:30 p.m. on November 6.

Tiffin - Scott Felgar got the win in goal against Findlay (11/1), playing the final 63:32 and making 3 saves...Jeff Frisch also played in goal, playing the first half and making another save.
