FLORENCE, Ala. - As stroke play at the NCAA Division II
Men’s Golf Championship wrapped up Wednesday afternoon, Wayne
State University junior Eric
Johnson (Marquette, Mich.) shot a 76 and finished in a
tie for 32nd place out of 108 golfers.
Johnson birdied two of the final four holes and finished four over
par for the day. His nine-over par 225 was 13 strokes off the pace
set by Kyle Souza of Chico State and Daniel Young of Lynn.
Souza defeated Young on the third playoff hole to claim individual
medalist honors. Eight teams moved on to compete in match play
Thursday and Friday.
Wayne State has been represented at the NCAA Championship, either
collectively or by an individual, each of the last four seasons.
Joe Juszczyk played in the 2008 Championship, while the Warriors
went as a team in 2009 and 2010.
