DUNCAN, Okla. - The Wayne State University team finished in second place, while the Ferris State University team placed third at the NCAA Division II Men's Golf Super Regional and, by way of their top-five finishes, will move on to compete at the NCAA Championship later this month.
WSU carded a 311 in Wednesday’s third and final round for a total score of 905, but fell one stroke behind the University of Central Missouri (304--904). Despite being passed by UCM for the lead on the final day, the Warriors will head to the national championship as a team for the second year in a row.
The Bulldogs ended up four strokes in back of super regional champion Central Missouri (904, +40) and three strokes behind runner-up Wayne State (905, +41). Bellarmine (909, +45) and host Cameron (910, +46) placed fourth and fifth, respectively to be among the top five teams receiving 2010 NCAA Division II Men's Golf Championships berth.
For the Warriors, Joe Juszczyk (Dearborn Heights, Mich./Divine Child) and Aaron Peterson (Ann Arbor, Mich./Huron) shot 76 and 77, respectively, on Wednesday for a three-round score of 224, eight over par and five strokes off the pace set by medalist Justin Yoder of Central Missouri.
Senior Eric Lilleboe (Okemos, Mich./Lansing Catholic Central) and junior Garrett Simons (Grand Ledge, Mich.) led Ferris State by finishing among the top 10 individuals. Lilleboe tallied a team-best 222 score (68-81-73=222, +6) to claim a share of fourth place for the second consecutive year. A season ago, the Bulldog golfer netted a one-over par 213 to tie for fourth at the 2009 Midwest/South Central Super Regional (May 4-6) in Allendale, Mich.
Three other teams represented the GLIAC well at the Super Region Tournament as Grand Valley State University placed 13th (922, +58), Saginaw Valley State University finished 15th (931, +67), and the University of Findlay came in 20th (961, +97).
The 2010 NCAA Division II Championship, hosted by the University of Indianapolis and the Indiana Sports Corporation, will take place May 18-21 at The Sagamore Club in Noblesville, Ind.
