Blaine, Wash. -- Ferris State capped off its 2008-09 season by claiming eighth place with a four-round 1,196 team score at the 2009 NCAA Division II Men's Golf Championships (May 19-22) at the Loomis Trail Golf Club course in Blaine, Wash. Wayne State finished in 13th place following the conclusion of the fourth and final round of the NCAA Division II Men's Golf Championship.

Ferris State - Ferris State capped off its 2008-09 season by claiming eighth place with a four-round 1,196 team score at the 2009 NCAA Division II Men's Golf Championships (May 19-22) at the Loomis Trail Golf Club course in Blaine, Wash. The Bulldogs turned in rounds of 303, 294, 301, and 298 in the 72-hole tournament to finish 60 strokes over par and one stroke in back of Indianapolis and California State-Stanislaus, which both tied for sixth-place honors. Senior Kelbi Lee (Billings, Mont.) was Ferris State's top performer with a first-place tying 289 regulation score (76-73-68-72=289, +5), but lost the individual title to Gavin Smith of Indiana (Pa.) on the first playoff hole. Junior Kurt Valley (Bay City/Western) fired a 297-stroke total (74-75-78-70=297, +13) to claim a seven-way tie for 20th place...The Bulldogs' eighth-place performance in the 2009 national tournament equalled the program's best finish ever for the fourth time. FSU compiled eighth-place national tourney finishes three consecutive seasons (1998, 1999, and 2000)...Ferris State's 1,196 team score at the 2009 NCAA-II Championships marked its third-best stroke total in national tourney competition. The 2008-09 squad's four-round score is third on the all-time charts to only the 1999-00 team (1,184 total strokes) and the 1998-99 squad (1,186 total strokes)...FSU concluded the 2008-09 campaign ranked 24th nationally in the fifth and final installment of the Golf World/Nike Golf Division II Coaches' Rankings Poll. The Bulldogs received 51 points in the final 2009 spring season poll. The rankings for NCAA Division II men's golf is derived from the Golf World magazine, Nike Golf, and the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) combining their resources...Junior Eric Lilleboe (Okemos/Lansing Catholic Central) paced the Bulldogs in stroke average for the second consecutive season with a squad-best 73.03 stroke average (2,118 total strokes) in 29 rounds this season. Lilleboe's 73.03 stroke average this campaign marked a personal season best, bettering his 73.30 average (2,199 strokes) in 30 rounds a season ago and his 78.36 average (862 strokes) in 11 rounds during his 2006-07 freshman season.
Wayne State - In its first trip to nationals as a team in program history, Wayne State finished in 13th place following the conclusion of the fourth and final round of the NCAA Division II Men's Golf Championship last Friday at Loomis Trail Golf Club...the Warriors' four-day total of 1217 (+81) was 38 strokes off the pace set by CSU-San Bernardino and Sonoma State ... Steve Cuzzort (Grosse Ile, Mich.) finished with a six-over 77 in the fourth round to tie for fifth place (71-70-74-77-292), three strokes behind the leaders...he easily surpassed the performance of any past golfer in Wayne State history at the national championship...at the conclusion of the tournament, the GCAA named Cuzzort to the Division II PING All-America First Team...Joe Juszczyk (Dearborn Heights, Mich./Divine Child), in his second straight NCAA Championship - he placed in a tie for 77th in the 2008 tournament as an individual - tied for 33rd place (78-69-78-75-300)...Chad Johnson (Plymouth, Mich./Canton) tied for 81st (79-81-75-78-313), Hagan Risner (Garden City, Mich.) tied for 88th (81-80-79-76-316), and Michael Wouters (Sterling Hts., Mich./Henry Ford II) tied for 103rd (87-86-75-83-331).
