Ferris State to Host GLIAC Men's Basketball Final Four This Weekend

BAY CITY, Mich. - Ferris State University will serve as the host for the 2011 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Men's Basketball semifinals and final this weekend.  Semifinal action will take place on Saturday, Mar. 5 in Jim Wink Arena, with the tournament final on Sunday, Mar. 6.

Top-seeded Ferris State advanced to the semifinals after downing No. 8 Saginaw Valley State University, 80-61, in quarterfinal action in Big Rapids (Mich.) on Wednesday night.  Senior forward/center Justin Keenan (Grand Rapids, Mich/Ottawa Hills) scored a game-high 28 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead the Bulldogs past the Cardinals.

Michigan Technological University, the No. 6 seed in the tournament, upset the No. 3 seed, Grand Valley State University on Wednesday, 74-72, in Allendale, Mich.  Sophomore center Ali Haidar (Windsor, Ont./Forster) scored 25 points and tallied 12 rebounds to lead the Huskies.

The University of Findlay punched its ticket to the GLIAC Semifinals with a 73-56 home win over seventh-seeded Lake Superior State University.  The second-seeded Oilers were led by junior guard Kyle Caiola (Parma, Ohio), who recorded 15 points, five assists and four rebounds in the win.

Wayne State University is the fourth GLIAC team in the semifinals after the No. 4 Warriors knocked off fifth-seeded Hillsdale College, 79-62, in Detroit on Wednesday.  WSU got a game high 20 points, as well as six rebounds and five assists, from senior guard  Bryan Smothers (Pontiac, Mich./Northern) in the victory.

The top-seeded Bulldogs will host fourth-seeded Michigan Tech on Saturday at 1 p.m. (ET).  The second semifinal between second-seeded Findlay and number three seed Wayne State will follow at approximately 3 p.m. (ET).  The championship game will take place on Sunday (March 6) at 2 p.m. (ET).

Advance tickets for Saturday's semifinals will be on sale at the FSU Athletics Ticket Office located inside the Ewigleben Sports Complex on Thursday and Friday beginning at 9 a.m. (ET) with expanded hours to 7 p.m. (ET).  Ticket prices for each session are $8 for adults or $2 for all students older than age five, including college students with identification.

All seats are general admission and no regular-season passes of any type such as FSU Rebounders Club or all-sports passes will be accepted per league tournament regulations.

The box office will open two hours prior to game time on Saturday at 11 a.m. (ET) with the doors to Wink Arena opening at noon.  The ticket office will also open two hours early prior to Sunday's championship game at 12 p.m. (ET) with Wink Arena's doors opening at 1 p.m. (ET) before the title contest.

The winner of the GLIAC Tournament receives an automatic bid into the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional Tournament slated to be held March 12-15 at a campus site yet to be determined.
