Wayne State & Ferris State Earn Berths to NCAA D-II Men's Basketball Midwest Region Tournament

INDIANAPOLIS, - Both Wayne State University and Ferris State University will be representing the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) in the NCAA Division II Midwest Region men's basketball tournament this weekend (Mar. 12, 13 & 15), which will be held on the campus of Bellarmine University in Louisville, Ky.

The Wayne State University men's basketball squad (22-7 overall) received the No. 3 seed for the upcoming NCAA Division II Midwest Regional being hosted by top-seeded Bellarmine University.

The Warriors will face GLIAC rival and sixth-seeded Ferris State (22-7 overall) on Saturday at Noon.

WSU defeated the Bulldogs, 73-71, on Sunday, March 6 in the GLIAC Championship game in Big Rapids as sophomore guard Mike Hollingsworth (Utica, Mich.) tipped in a missed Warrior shot with 1.5 seconds left.

Ferris State and Wayne State were the only GLIAC member schools to earn berths in the regional field.  Host Bellarmine (Ky.) is the top seed and will face eigth-seeded Indianapolis with second-seeded Southern Indiana taking on number seven seed Drury (Mo.).  Finally, fourth-seeded Northern Kentucky will square off against fifth-seeded Kentucky Wesleyan.

The single-elimination national tournament field includes eight regions of eight teams apiece. The Midwest Regional champion will advance to the NCAA Division II Elite Eight set for March 23-26 in Springfield, Mass.

The complete first round matchups and regional seedings are listed below.  Please note that all times are Eastern time:

12 p.m. - #3 Wayne State vs. #6 Ferris State
2:30 p.m. - #2 Southern Indiana vs. #7 Drury
6 p.m. - #1 Bellarmine vs. #8 Indianapolis
8:30 p.m. - #4 Northern Kentucky vs. #5 Kentucky Wesleyan

Sunday's regional semifinal games will be played in the evening with the championship game on Tuesday night at 7 p.m. (ET).
