Findlay and Grand Valley State to Clash for 2009 GLIAC Men's Basketball Title
Findlay, Ohio -- The University of Findlay and Grand Valley State University men's basketball teams will play for the 2009 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) men's basketball championship Saturday evening at the Croy Gymnasium in Findlay, Ohio. Saturday's game will mark the third straight Oilers-Lakers championship matchup.

The University of Findlay men’s basketball team, ranked
first in the latest National Association of Basketball Coaches
(NABC) poll, defeated Michigan Technological University 64-46 on
Friday, March 6 in Croy Gymnasium to advance to the finals of the
2009 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC)
Tournament against Grand Valley State University. The win gives the
Oilers a 29-0 record on the season as they broke the school record
for consecutive victories.
All-American senior forward Josh Bostic led the way by scoring 18
of the Oilers first 20 points. The 2009 GLIAC Player of the Year
finished the game with 27 points, six rebounds and three
steals.
Senior center Lee Roberts added ten points and eight boards while
sophomore guard Nathan Hyde added ten points as well.
As a team, Findlay shot 43.1 percent (22-of-51) from the floor and
held the Huskies to a mere 33.3 percent (17-of-51) shooting clip in
the win.
The Huskies were paced by Robby Springborn’s 25 points.
In the second game, Grand Valley State University defeated Lake
Superior State University 81-69.
Justin Ringler came off the bench to score a team-high 19 points
for Grand Valley State while Pete Trammell and Alvin Storrs
recorded 17 apiece.
Lake Superior State was led by Scott Perkins’ 16 points.
The Oilers will play the Lakers on Saturday, March 7 at 7:00 p.m.
in Croy Gymnasium for a shot at the GLIAC Tournament title.

FINDLAY, Ohio - Lake Superior State made its second straight
trip to the semifinal round of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate
Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Tournament and lost for the
second straight year to Grand Valley State.
LSSU (21-8), which went into Friday's game as the No. 2 seed, lost
81-69 to No. 3 seed GVSU (21-8). Last year, GVSU was the No. 1 seed
and beat the Lakers, 76-64.
GVSU advances to Saturday's championship game and will play host
Findlay at 7 p.m.
Both GVSU and LSSU are still in the hunt for an NCAA Tournament
bid. Lake Superior State went into the week ranked sixth in the
Midwest Regional, while Grand Valley State was 10th. No. 7 Kentucky
Wesleyan, No. 8 Hillsdale and No. 9 Lewis also lost in league
tournament play. The top eight seeds advance, and selections will
be announced Sunday at 9 p.m. on www.ncaa.com.
Grand Valley State, which had to win the game in order to have a
shot at a national tournament berth, shot 81 percent (17-of-21)
from the field in the second half and 62.5 percent for the game. It
was the fourth time this season that GVSU has shot over 60 percent
from the field, but their highest percentage since beating Tiffin
on Jan. 17.
Lake Superior State shot only 38.7 percent and was out-rebounded,
37-28.
