GLIAC Announces Fall 2008 Commissioner's Award Recipients

Bay City, Mich. -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) announced the Fall 2008 winners of the GLIAC Commissioner’s Awards for Academic and Athletic Excellence. The awards, sponsored by Meijer, Incorporated, will be presented after the Fall, Winter, and Spring athletic seasons to six male and six female student-athletes that excel both in the classroom and on the fields of play. The Awards were announced in conjunction with the release of the GLIAC Fall All-Academic Teams in which 689 student-athletes were honored for their efforts.

DEARBORN, Mich. — Michigan Tech senior Keith White (Rhinelander, Wis.) was one of only three collegiate student-athletes honored at a combined Detroit Free Press and National Football Foundation banquet last night. The Free Press lauded the members of its 2008 Football All-State High School Dream Team and the NFF’s Michigan Chapter handed out its Merritt D. MacFarland Scholar-Athlete Awards at the event which took place at the Dearborn Inn.

WACO, TEX.– Minnesota-Duluth took a 7-0 lead at halftime and never looked back, beating No. 2 Northwest Missouri State, 21-14, in the Division II national championship game, earning the Bulldogs its first-ever national title. Minnesota-Duluth jumps from No. 6 to No. 1 in the final AFCA Division II Coaches’ Poll for 2008. North Alabama, Grand Valley State and Abilene Christian round out the Top 5.
