GLIAC Football Preview Notes - Week #11
BAY CITY, Mich. - Week #11 is the final week of regular season play for Division II Football. Four Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) still have NCAA D-II postseason aspirations entering the final week of play.
Grand Valley State University has clinched a share of the GLIAC title and leads both the conference and the North Division with a 8-1 mark (9-1 overall). The Lakers will try to grab the GLIAC title outright on Saturday when they visit Saginaw Valley State University (Noon). Michigan Technological University (7-2, 7-2 overall) needs a win over Northern Michigan University in the annual "Miner's Cup" game on Saturday, and a GVSU loss to earn a share of both the GLIAC and North Division crowns.
The Huskies are in a three-way tie for second place in the conference with Hillsdale College (7-2, 8-2 overall), and Wayne State University(7-2, 8-2 overall). The Chargers and Warriors are tied at the top of the South Division with one game to play. Hillsdale will host Tiffin University on Saturday (1:00 p.m.), while the Warriors travel to the University of Findlay for a Noon clash.
GVSU is ranked third in the latest NCAA D-II Football Super Region #3 poll of the 2010 season. Hillsdale is ranked sixth, Michigan Tech is ranked seventh, while Wayne State landed at the No. 8 position. The top six teams in the final Super Region poll will advance to the D-II playoffs.
