DETROIT, Mich. - Wayne State University junior
safety Jeremy
Jones (Grand Rapids, Mich./Rockford) has been selected
national defensive player of the week by D2Football.com.
Jones recorded a team leading 13 tackles and produced a pair of
second half turnovers for Wayne State in last Saturday's victory
over Saginaw Valley. Late in the third quarter, Saginaw Valley had
an opportunity to cut WSU's 34-21 lead to one score, but Jones came
up with interception in SVSU territory. The ensuing possession
resulted in a WSU touchdown, and 41-21 lead. In the final period
with WSU ahead 41-27, Jones ended another Saginaw Valley drive with
his second interception of the game. For the season, Jones is the
Warriors' leader in total tackles, interceptions and interception
return yardage.
Wayne State plays its final home game this Saturday at noon
against the Indianapolis Greyhounds.
