Burnsville, Minn. - University of Minnesota Duluth’s Isaac Odim was named the NCAA Super Region #3 Offensive Player of the Year while Colorado School of Mines Marc Schiechl was selected as the Defensive Player of the Year.
Two-time All-American Isaac Odim injured his left knee in practice on Oct. 16 and will be out for the remainder of the 2010 season. Odim still did enough prior to injury to be named NSIC Offensive Player of the Year. Odim had been leading the nation in scoring (19.0 points per game) and was fifth in both rushing (132.7 yards per game) and all-purpose yards (177.2 ypg). Odim, who owns 17 UMD single-game, single-season and career records, is the Bulldogs’ all-time rushing (4,245 yds.), scoring (492 points) and all-purpose yardage leader (5,593). The fourth-leading vote getter for the 2009 Harlon Hill Trophy, Odim has eclipsed the 100-yard barrier in 25 of his 34 games as a Bulldog, including 12 of 13 outings one year ago when he was chosen to a program-best five different All-American teams. The reigning NSIC Offensive Player of the Year and 2009 CoSIDA Academic All-American also holds down the No. 4 spot on NSIC’s career rushing charts with 3,273 yards in league play.
Marc Schiechl is the all-time NCAA Division II career leader in sacks with 44.5 and was named RMAC Defensive Player of the Year the past two seasons. He is one of eight finalist for the Gene Upshaw Award (top lineman in NCAA Division II football) He is a three-time First Team All-RMAC, a First Team All-Region in 09 and second team in 2007 & 2008. Schiechl was also an All-American in 2008 & 2009.
First team all-region honorees are now eligible for Daktronics, Inc. Division II Football All-American selection. The announcement of those All-American teams is expected on December 14th, preceding the NCAA Division II Football Championship, which takes place Dec. 18 in Florence, Ala.
