Ohio Dominican's Borgan Named a Coastal Plain League All-Star

HOLLY SPRINGS, N.C. – Rising junior Alex Borgan (Pickerington, Ohio) was selected to play in the Coastal Plain League All-Star Game, the league announced Tuesday.
Borgan will represent the National Team in the game, which will be played on Monday, July 18 at J.P. Riddle Stadium in Fayetteville, N.C.
Playing with the Petersburg Generals this summer, Borgan has a 1-4 record on the season but leads the team with a 3.22 ERA in seven starts. The right-hander has gone the distance in two of his starts and worked a team-best 44.2 innings, holding the opposition to a .229 batting average, which also is tops on the squad. He's struck out 33 hitters and yielded just one home run.
Pitching with the Panthers as a sophomore this past spring, Borgan tied for the team lead with five victories, throwing 72.2 innings and notching five complete games. He made 13 starts, which tied for the second-most in the GLIAC, and struck out 47 hitters.
The Coastal Plain League is comprised of 15 teams and has 21 alumni currently on Major League Baseball rosters, including Justin Verlander of the Detroit Tigers, Kevin Youkilis of the Boston Red Sox, Ryan Zimmerman of the Washington Nationals, Mark Reynolds of the Baltimore Orioles and Joe Smith of the Cleveland Indians.
