Three GLIAC Players Named as ABCA All-American
Mt. Pleasant, Mich. -- The American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) & Rawlings are proud to announce the 2011 NCAA Division II All-American Teams. The teams were selected during the NCAA Division II Championships by the ABCA NCAA Division II All-American Committee. The Great Lakes Collegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) had three student-athletes named to the All-American team. Seniors Ajay Meyer (East Halmer, Ohio/Owens C.C.) of Ashland University and Michael Wiseman (White Lake, Mich/Lakeland) from Wayne State University were both named to the first team. Cody Grice (DeWitt, Mich.), a junior at Grand Valley State University was named to the second team.

Meyer was 9-3 with a 1.57 ERA in 16 appearances last season. He also set the AU single-season record with 11 complete games, including three shutouts. He also appeared in three games as a reliever and recorded two saves. The right-hander also led the GLIAC in innings pitched (103) and strikeouts (95). Opponents batted .190 off Meyer, who allowed no earned runs in nine of his 16 appearances. For his career, Meyer posted a 19-5 record with 19 complete games. He finished his career with two of his most impressive performances. On May 7, he dazzled with his first career one-hitter in a 3-0 win over Hillsdale. Also, in the first game of the GLIAC Tournament, Meyer tossed 11 innings, allowing just three earned runs in a 4-3, 12-inning loss to Wayne State. He threw 97 of his 143 pitches for strikes.
Wiseman led Wayne State with a .368 batting average (ninth in GLIAC) and a career-best 71 hits to lead the conference (tied for fifth most in program history). He also led the squad with 17 doubles (first in conference) and 40 RBI (sixth). Wiseman had 25 multiple-hit games and 11 multiple-RBI games, leading the team in both categories. The only Warrior to start all 56 games in 2011, Wiseman was instrumental in Wayne State winning a program-record 35 games and reaching the championship game of the NCAA Midwest Regional. He received All-GLIAC First Team honors (third time in his career) as well as First Team All-Region accolades from Daktronics and the American Baseball Coaches Association.
Grice became only the second GVSU player to be honored as such. Grice hit .381 this season with 69 hits, 14 doubles, five triples, four home runs, 59 RBI and 23 stolen bases. He started all 57 games for the Lakers and led the nation in sacrifice flies. Grice broke the career school record for runs scored, ending the year with 170 runs over his three-year career. He is also within seven bases of tying the all-time total bases record. Grice hit .426 with runners on base and reached base 57.6-percent of the time as the leadoff hitter. He also hit an impressive .436 with runners in scoring position on the year. He had 19 multi-hit games and 18 multi-RBI games on the season, including a 5-for-5 performance against Wayne State in the Midwest Regional Championship game, his first career five-hit game.
