Bulldogs
The Ferris State University men’s tennis team did not compete this past week. The Bulldogs are slated to take part in the GLIAC Championships this weekend (April 19-20) at the Midland Community Tennis Center. Ferris will most likely be the second seed for the tournament as the Bulldogs own a 9-8 overall record in addition to a 6-1 conference mark this campaign under first-year head coach Alex Palladino. FSU is ranked 38th nationally along with third in the Great Lakes Region by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. Ferris is presently 7-1 against in-region schools this campaign and has won seven of its last nine outings to date. The Bulldogs are currently 64-49 (.556) overall in singles matches this year, which includes an impressive 33-9 (.786) record in conference competition.Meanwhile, Ferris is 26-30 (.464) in doubles play, but also won 17 of its21 (.810) GLIAC doubles flights this season.

Oilers
The University of Findlay men’s tennis team lost 9-0 to Grand Valley State University on Saturday, April 12 in Findlay, Ohio. The loss gives the Oilers a 5-9 record on the season with a 0-6 mark in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC). The Oilers will be back in action again on April 18 when they face Northwood University at 1:00 p.m. in Midland, Michigan.

GVSU concluded regular season play with a 17-4 overall record and a 5-2 mark in the GLIAC, finishing in third place…In singles play, Freshman Philipp Claus extended his winning streak to seven matches, going 3-0 this week and earning wins over Northwood’s Pierre Martiner Bot, 6-4, 6-2, Findlay’s Matt Thomas, 6-1, 6-4, and Mercyhurst’s Adam Marnik, 6-4, 6-3…Sophomore Brock Plangger increased his winning streak to five matches, defeating Northwood’s Carlos Canudas, 6-2, 6-4 and Mercyhurst’s Kyle King, 6-3, 7-5…Plangger finished his season at 13-2 and 5-1 in GLIAC play…Matt Globerson and Alex Switzer went 2-1 over the weekend and finished conference play at 6-1…The duo defeated Orry Kennedy and Nick Eby of Findlay, 8-2 and Mercyhurst’s Ronald Heurich and Kyle King 8-4.

LSSU’s final regular-season home match against Michigan Tech was postponed Saturday due to poor travel conditions. Portions of the central Upper Peninsula received up to 2 feet of snow and wind gusts reaching 50 mph, making travel impossible for the Huskies. The match has been rescheduled for 3 p.m. Thursday at LSSU.

Mercyhurst closed out the regular season with an 8-1 loss to Grand Valley State Sunday…Tim Hansson and Mateusz Przybysz paired up to beat Grand Valley State’s Tony Dang and Patryk Polus 8-6 at No. 1 doubles. Dang and Polus are ranked fifth in the region…The Lakers took three sets to tiebreakers in singles play but lost all three…Mercyhurst ends GLIAC play fifth in the conference and will play No. 4 seed Wayne State in the opening round of the GLIAC Tournament this weekend.

Due to winter weather in the Upper Pennisula the Huskies match with Lake Superior State has been postponed until Thursday, April 17 . Then they will travel to the Midland Community Tennis and take part in the 2008 GLIAC Championships.

Timberwolves
The Northwood University men’s tennis team remained unbeaten in the GLIAC with a 5-4 victory over Wayne State Monday afternoon (April 14). Northwood, which is ranked 16th nationally, improves to 8-2 overall, 6-0 in the GLIAC. Wayne State is 7-8 overall, 4-3 in the GLIAC. The bottom of the Northwood lineup proved to be the key to victory. NU earned a win at two doubles to trail 2-1 heading into singles. NU then earned wins at the 3,4,5 and 6 positions in singles to remain unbeaten in conference play. Northwood finishes its regular season Friday afternoon at home against Findlay. That match begins at 1 p.m. The Timberwolves will then compete in the GLIAC Tournament Saturday and Sunday at the Midland Community Tennis Center.

Warriors
The #43 Wayne State men’s tennis team suffered two 5-4 heartbreaking losses at #23 (NAIA) Aquinas (Apr, 12) and #16 Northwood (Apr. 14) finishing conference play with a 4-3 mark and 7-8 overall. The Warriors now prepare for the 2008 GLIAC Tournament and looks to make a run after last season’s semifinal loss to eventual champion Northwood.Antoine Marenaud is currently riding a team-high 13 match singles winning streak and has a #15 regional ranking.
