Eagles
Ashland dropped a pair of tough home losses to Saginaw Valley State and Northwood over the weekend. Sophomore Tom Mangotic (Maumee, OH/Anthony Wayne) and freshman Zach Il’Giovine (Concord Twp., OH/Lake Catholic) tallied goals in the loss to SVSU on Friday afternoon, while sophomore Max Hiltner (Wadsworth, OH) and junior Torrey Korsog (Maumee, OH/Owens C.C.) notched scores in the 3-2 loss to Northwood on Sunday. The Eagles look for their first win of the season on Saturday against Findlay. It is Senior Day and the last home match for AU’s eight seniors.

Oilers
The Oilers lost a pair of GLIAC games last week at home…Findlay fell 5-3 to Northwood and 2-1 against Saginaw Valley State in double overtime…Freshman Dan Stelltell had three assists in the two losses…Sophomore Ronnie Platten scored one goal in each of the games while senior Jimi Mayo contributed the other goal for Findlay in the loss to Northwood…Sophomore B.J. Goodwin leads the team with a total of 20 points…He has scored eight goals and tallied four assists…Platten and Stelltell are tied for second on the team with 11 points…Platten has scored five goals while Stelltell has found the back of the net four times.

Golden Knights
Gannon was perfect in two matches last week against Seton Hill (2-1) and Tiffin (3-2) … the victory against Seton Hill extended the squad’s home unbeaten streak to 12 … the Golden Knights have not lost a home match since a 3-2 setback to Findlay on September 23, 2006 … Gannon was ranked fourth in the October 16th NSCAA regional rankings … the Golden Knights have posted 14 victories in a season for the first time since the 1998 squad went 15-5 … Afrim Latifi (Erie, Pa./Cathedral Prep) has five goals in the last four matches after scoring twice in the first nine contests … Andrew Lorei (Erie, Pa./Cathedral Prep) dished out assists during both goals against Seton Hill, extending his season total to nine … Lorei netted his first career goal against Tiffin … Geneo Oberst (Cleveland, Ohio/St. Edward) recorded his fourth game-winning goal of the season with seven minutes remaining against Tiffin.

Mercyhurst lost a hard-fought match to Ohio Dominican 2-1 Saturday in its only contest of the week…Ohio Dominican, which is ranked No. 10 in the NAIA, entered the contest with a record of 12-1 and had allowed only one goal all year before Kurt Young tied the game late…Young’s goal was his 10th of the season, giving him 28 in his two-year career…Mercyhurst closes out the regular season this week, beginning with its final home game of the year Wednesday against future-GLIAC school Tiffin. The Lakers then play at rival Gannon Saturday before taking part in the GLIAC Tournament.

Timberwolves
The Timberwolves claimed a pair of victories and a tie last week... NU started the week with a 2-2 double overtime tie with Rochester (Mich.), then scored a key GLIAC wins over Findlay and Ashland... In the 5-3 win over UF, after Findlay opened the scoring in the eighth minute, the match turned into the Ross Aitchison (Berwick, Scotland) show. The sophomore netted four of the next five goals of the match - all of which occurred in the first half - to give the Timberwolves a 5-1 lead at the break. Aitchison now has a team-best 13 goals on the year. He also assisted on the other when Steve Hufstader (Grand Rapids, Mich./Forest Hills Northern) scored his second tally of the year... In the 3-2 win over Ashland, the two teams alternated goals from start to finish. The Timberwolves opened the scoring in the third minute on Brett Dutcher’s (Brighton, Mich.) second goal of the season. Later in the half, Steve Hufstader scored his second goal of the weekend and third of the season at 33:32. The game went to halftime tied 2-2...
NU would score the only goal of the second half in the 65th minute. Art Neilson (Berwick, Scotland) beat the keeper for his second goal of the year which would prove to be the game winner.
