Ashland University
Eagles
     Ashland dropped both matches this weekend to the schools from Erie, PA – AU fell to Gannon 2-1 and to Mercyhurst 1-0. Sophomore Tom Mangotic (Maumee, OH/Anthony Wayne) scored the lone goal for Ashland over the weekend. Senior goalkeeper Ryan Cruise (Ormskirk, Lancaster, UK/Hartwell College) stopped 14 shots in the two contests. The Eagles return home for their final three matches.

Oilers
     The Oilers lost a pair of games to Erie, Pennsylvania schools, losing 5-3 to Mercyhurst and 2-0 to Gannon…Jimi Mayo, Ryan Bryson and Dan Stelltell scored the three goals for the Oilers…Findlay has now lost three games in a row…On the season, B.J. Goodwin leads the Oilers with 20 points…He has scored eight goals and made four assists.

Golden Knights

     Gannon was perfect in two home matches last weekend against Ashland (2-1) and Findlay (2-0), extending the squad’s home unbeaten streak to 11 … the Golden Knights have not lost a home match since a 3-2 setback to Findlay on September 23, 2006 … Gannon’s victory against Findlay last Sunday clinched the squad’s first outright GLIAC regular-season title after the program shared the title with Mercyhurst in 1995 and 2003 … the Golden Knights will host the inaugural GLIAC Final Four November 1 and 3 … Gannon was among others receiving votes in the October 9th National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) national rankings and was tabbed fourth in the October 9th NSCAA regional rankings … the Golden Knights have reached double digits in victories for the third consecutive season and 21st time in the last 25 seasons … the 12 victories equal the most in a season since the 2003 squad went 12-7 … Afrim Latifi (Erie, Pa./Cathedral Prep) scored three of Gannon’s four goals last weekend, including both game-winners … Latifi, who entered the weekend with two goals in nine matches, scored both goals during a 2-1 victory against Ashland … Steven Boehmer (Dayton, Ohio/Carroll) recorded his third shutout of the season with six saves against Findlay … the Golden Knights play two of its last three regular-season games at home, where they are 7-0 this season.

Lakers

     The Mercyhurst Lakers men’s soccer team went 2-1 this weekend with a 1-0 defeat to Houghton on Tuesday and two key GLIAC wins against Ashland and Findlay….Against Ashland, the Lakers pulled out a 5-3 win with two key offensive efforts from freshman Billy Colton and sophomore Kurt Young…Colton had three goals against Findlay and Young had two goals and two assists…On Sunday, Mercyhurst defeated Ashland 1-0 in a hard fought game…Young scored the game winning goal for the Lakers off of an assist from Colton…Young and Colton combined for 15 points this weekend.

Timberwolves
     The Northwood University men’s soccer team dropped their lone match of last week Tiffin University by the score of 3-1 … NU is now 3-6-1 … Northwood scored the lone goal of the first half, as Ross Aitchison (Berwick, Scotland) scored off of a scramble out front off a cross from Art Neilson (Glasgow, Scotland) …Tiffin’s offense would come to life in the second half, scoring three goals on five shots to earn the win … NU travels to Rochester October 16.
