Ashland University
Eagles
     The Eagles lost their only match last week; a 4-2 defeat at the hands of Saginaw Valley State. Ashland was tied at the half before allowing two late goals by the Cardinals, which proved to be the deficit. Senior forward Albert Smith (Pickerington, OH/West Virginia University) scored both AU goals and leads the team with five tallies. Senior Dan Johns (Pickerington, OH/Robert Morris) recorded his first assist of the season on Smith’s first goal.

Oilers
     The University of Findlay men’s soccer team fell 4-1 to Saginaw Valley State University on Sunday, October 7 in University Center, Michigan. The loss gives the Oilers a 4-6-1 record on the season with a 1-2-1 mark in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC)... Dan Stelltell scored the Oilers lone goal late in the second half to get Findlay on the board and avoid the shutout... Daryl Lotz took the loss by allowing four goals. He also added five saves... The Oilers will be back in action again on October 12 when they face Mercyhurst College. The contest is scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m. in Erie, Pa.

Golden Knights

     Gannon went 1-1 during a big Great Lakes region road swing last weekend, winning at Truman State (2-0) and losing at Rockhurst (1-0) … all three teams were ranked in the October 2nd National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) regional rankings … Gannon was ranked second, Rockhurst fifth, and Truman State sixth … the Golden Knights were ranked 16th nationally in the October 2nd NSCAA national rankings … Steven Boehmer (Dayton, Ohio/Carroll) posted a 0.50 goals against average and .938 save percentage last weekend, making a season-high nine saves during a 2-0 shutout of Truman State … it was his second shutout of the season … Chad Wynter (Mississauga, Ontario/John Cabot Catholic) came back from an injury and netted his second game-winner of the season at Truman State … Gannon’s 1-0 loss at Rockhurst was its first shutout loss since a 1-0 setback at Truman State on September 3, 2006 … the Golden Knights play four of its last five regular-season games at home, where they are 5-0 this season.

Lakers

     The Lakers were idle last week but return to action with three matches this week. Mercyhurst will host Houghton (N.Y.) in a non-league contest on Tuesday before welcoming GLIAC foes Findlay and Ashland on Friday and Sunday, respectively.

     Both of Northwood’s matches last week were postponed … Northwood returns to action Tuesday against Tiffin.

Cardinals
     The Cardinals went 2-0 in their home stand against Ashland and Findlay last week....SVSU defeated Ashland 4-2 in Friday evening match....Senior Jimmy Henry (Oxford, Mich.) scored two goals and assisted on two others, Henry now has six goals on the season.......Junior Brent Walker (Owosso, Mich.) found the back of the net twice this week as he helped led the Cardinals to two vicotries....Walker now has seven goals this season....SVSU will look to tie a school record for wins in a season with eight on Saturday when they play Macomb CC.
