Eagles
The Eagles dropped a pair of matches to Ohio schools this week, remaining winless for the year. Defensemen Aaron Favri (Burbank, OH/Norwayne) and midfielder Ross Ashley (Ashland, OH) netted goals for AU in a 4-2 loss to Notre Dame (OH). Ashland played its best match of the year against Tiffin, falling short 2-1. AU outshot the Dragons, 16-13, but a late goal put Tiffin ahead to stay. Albert Smith (Pickerington, OH/West Virginia University) scored for the Eagles; it was his first goal of the season. Ashland opens the conference portion of its schedule on Tuesday at Findlay.

The Oilers claimed their first win of the season in grand fashion, defeating Saint Joseph’s College 5-1 on September 7… Sophomore B.J. Goodwin led the Oilers by scoring two goals while recording two assists…Freshman Dan Stelltell, senior Jimi Mayo and junior Michael Albert added the other goals.

Gannon was idle last week as it’s only match of the week at Houghton was postponed due to lightning strikes … the Golden Knights will have 11 days off before returning to action September 11 at Mercyhurst … the squad opens GLIAC play with three conference matches this week.

Lakers
Mercyhurst men’s soccer team took home a tie and a win this weekend in the Oakland City Tournament.On Friday, the Lakers fought to a 1-1 tie in double overtime with Indianapolis. Sophomore Kurt Young tallied the lone goal for the Lakers in the 82nd minute of play.On Saturday, the Lakers ended the season on a nigh note by defeating Oakland City 4-1. Sophomore Kurt Young had one goal and two assists on the game while three other Lakers contributed on the last three goals.

Timberwolves
The Northwood University men’s soccer team evened its record at 2-2 on the season after posting a 4-0 win over Alma Wednesday afternoon (September 5) in the Timberwolves lone action last week ... Alma fell to 0-2 on the season with the loss ... the game was scoreless into the 35th minute when Northwood’s offense came to life ... the Timberwolves netted three goals over the final 10:30 of the half to take a 3-0 lead to the break ... Evan Diener (Rochester, Mich./Lutheran Wesland) opened the scoring at 34:30 off a feed from Tyler DeLaLuz (Holland, Mich.) ... it was the first goal in the career of Diener ... just over a minute later, last week’s GLIAC Player of the Week Ross Aitchison (Berwick, Scotland) made it 2-0 with his fifth goal of the season off a feed from Filip Dabovic (Hamburg, Germany) ... Mike Spencer (London, England) made it 3-0 with less than two minutes remaining in the half, beating numerous defenders en route to the net ... Sasha Nanninga (Hamburg, Germany) registered the assist on the goal, which was Spencer’s first of the season ... the lone goal of the second half came at 82:06, when Filip Dabovic (Hamburg, Germany) beat the keeper off a feed from Nanninga to make the score 4-0 ... for the game, Northwood finished with an 18-4 advantage in shots and a 5-0 edge in corner kicks ... freshman keeper William Eberhardt (Depeuw, N.Y./Lancaster) made three saves to earn his first career shutout ... NU will host Saginaw Valley Tuesday (Sept. 11) at 4 p.m.

It was an even split this week for the SVSU men’s soccer team winning 3-1 at Oakland City and falling 2-0 at Indianapolis…The Cardinals scored three goals in the first 20 minutes against the Mighty Oaks and cruised to their third win of the season…SVSU registered only four wins the entire season last year (4-14).
