Eagles
     Ashland dropped a 5-2 decision to Findlay on Saturday afternoon. Senior Day at the AU Soccer Complex saw senior Albert Smith (Pickerington, OH/West Virginia University) tally both Eagle goals in the loss. It was his sixth and seventh goals of the season. AU will head to Northwood to makeup a postponed game on Monday (Oct. 29)..

     The University of Findlay men’s soccer team concluded their 2007 season on a high note with a 5-2 win over Ashland University on Saturday, October 27 in Ashland, Ohio. The win gives the Oilers a record of 5-11-1 on the year with a 2-7-1 mark in the GLIAC... The Oilers got two goals apiece from Jimi Mayo and Ronnie Platten while B.J. Goodwin added the fifth in the victory... Findlay got on the scoreboard first when Mayo scored off of an assist by Nick Eby at the 26:41 mark of the game... Platten then took a pass from Eric Redder less than three seconds later and punched the ball into the back of the net to give Findlay a 2-0 lead at the 29:16 mark of the game... Up 2-0, Mayo scored his second goal of the day at the 37:20 mark off of an assist by Platten, which was followed by two consecutive goals from the Eagles to cut the lead to 3-2 early in the second half... Holding a one goal advantage, Goodwin assisted Platten’s second goal of the day at the 69:36 mark and then closed the scoring with only ten seconds to play off of a free kick... Conrad Davenport captured the victory for Findlay in goal by only allowing a pair of goals. He also made one save in the win..

Golden Knights

     Gannon concluded the regular season with a 1-1 double-overtime tie against rival Mercyhurst, marking the squad’s second overtime match of the season … both overtime matches came against Mercyhurst … the tie extended the squad’s home unbeaten streak to 13 … the Golden Knights have not lost a home match since a 3-2 setback to Findlay on September 23, 2006 … Gannon was ranked fourth in the October 23rd NCAA Great Lakes regional rankings … the Golden Knights have posted 14 victories in a season for the first time since the 1998 squad went 15-5 … Matt Cuthbert (London, Ontario/Sir Wilfrid Laurier) scored the tying goal 41 seconds into the second half … Cuthbert, a defender, has two goals this season with one being a game-winner and one forcing a tie … Steven Boehmer (Dayton, Ohio/Carroll) made seven saves, his second-highest single-match total this season … Boehmer kicked away an uncontested shot 2:05 into the first overtime session to preserve the tie … Dan Howell (Erie, Pa./Iroquois) recorded his 12th assist of the season against Mercyhurst, equaling the eighth-highest single-season total in school history.

     The Mercyhurst Lakers produced a loss and a tie this week against Tiffin and GLIAC opponent Gannon…Against Tiffin, the Lakers gave up a 3-1 lead at halftime to eventually lose out 6-5..Freshman Billy Colton scored two goals and one assist in the loss…Against Gannon, the Lakers again had an early 1-0 lead at half but Gannon would come back to tie it to send the match into overtime…The Lakers now await the seeding in the GLIAC championship for the weekend at Gannon.

Northwood University
Timberwolves
     The Northwood University men’s soccer team earned a 3-1 victory over Ashland Monday afternoon (October 29)... Northwood has now won five in a row and is 8-6-2 overall, 6-3-1 in the GLIAC...With the win, Northwood will be the No. 2 seed for the upcoming GLIAC Tournament, which will be held November 1 & 3 at Gannon. The Timberwolves will face No. 3 seed Saginaw Valley State Thursday morning at 11 a.m... Northwood opened the scoring at the 10 minute mark on Steve Hufstader’s (Grand Rapids, Mich./Forest Hills Northern) fourth goal of the season. NU then got a goal by Filip Dabovic (Hamburg, Germany) at 33:22 to send the game to the break 2-0... Ashland scored in the first minute of the second half to make the score 2-1, but GLIAC-leading scorer Ross Aitchison (Berwick, Scotland) netted his 17th goal of the year at 62:43 to make the final score 3-1... Mike Spencer (London, England) assisted on both Northwood goals. Keeper Kenny Huber (Grand Blanc, Mich.) made five saves and did not allow a goal to earn the victory.

Cardinals
     The SVSU men’s soccer team, fresh off a school record-breaking regular season with 11 wins, will travel to Gannon to play in the GLIAC men’s soccer championship. The third-seeded Cardinal’s are scheduled to play on Thursday in Erie, Pa. against rival Northwood at 11 am... The Cardinal men’s soccer team closed out its record-breaking regular season with a 2-1 victory over Seton Hill University. The win was SVSU’s 11th on the season... The SVSU men’s soccer team fell to Northwood, 2-0, on Saturday, breaking the Cardinals’ six game winning streak.
