Ashland brought home a fourth-place finish at the All-Ohio championships last weekend at the University of Cincinnati. The team of sophomore Joe Horn (Waynesfield, OH/Waynesfield-Goshen), junior Nick Bellanco (Wooster, OH), senior Bryan Ryman (Fort Seneca, OH/Old Fort), and senior Jerry Ezell (Columbus, OH/South) won the 4x100 relay with a time of 40.85…Bellanco, Horn, Ryman, and junior Edwin Smith (Youngstown, OH/Ursuline) were the gold medalists in the 4x4 with a time of 3:10.31…Bellanco was third in the long jump at 6.95m…junior Dan Tierney (Albion, NY/Medina) was tops in the pole vault (5.05m)…Bryan Vickers won the shot put (18.78m) and was runner-up in the discus (51.36m)....sophomore Blaine Maag (Columbus Grove, OH) was seventh in the shot put (16.04m) and fourth in the discus (49.57m)…senior Rob Klenk (Kettering, OH/Fairmont) won the hammer throw at 66.85m…sophomore Alan Dunson (Columbus, OH/Walnut Ridge) finished fourth in the 110m hurdles (14.81).

Bulldogs
The Ferris State University men’s outdoor track and field team had a number of outstanding performances as the Bulldogs competed Saturday (April 19) at the Northwood Open in Midland, Mich. Ferris was led by senior Dave Czerny (Piedmont, S.D.), who won the pole vault (15-11.25) while reaching the national provisional standard and posting FSU’s second-best outdoor vault ever in the the process.Freshman James Armstrong (Pine River) placed third in the 400-meter hurdles (58.72), junior Brian Williams (Detroit) finished third in the 400 meters (49.70) and senior Ray Rollet (South Rockwood/Airport) received fourth place in the men’s 3,000-meter steeplechase (10:08.29).Bulldog senior Jared Kelsh (Chippewa Lake/Chippewa Hills) took fifth place in the 800 meters (1:55.44) and Ferris placed fourth overall in the men’s 4x400-meter relay (3:29.70).Ferris State will next compete in a pair of meets on Friday and Saturday (April 25-26). The Bulldogs will send student-athletes to both the Hillsdale “Gina” Relays in Michigan along with the prestigious Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa.

The University of Findlay men’s outdoor track and field team completed the second day of the All-Ohio Championship on Saturday, April 19 in Cincinnati, Ohio.Cory Brunow finished fifth in the long jump after a leap of 22’01.50 and James Eric broke his own school record in the hammer throw with a heave of 184’03.00.Greg Schaible took seventh in the 400 meter dash at 49.64 and Simon Bernard also placed seventh for Findlay, coming in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 56.06. Schaible also teamed with Simon Bernard, Erik Birkholz and Scott Werner to finish seventh in the 4x400 meter relay at 3:24.75 and then teamed with Essex Berry, Birkholz and Curtis Haggard to place eighth in the 4x100 meter relay with a time of 43.75.The Oilers will be back in action again on April 24 at the Penn Relays in Philadelphia, Pa.

Three different Lakers earned first-place finishes as Grand Valley State’s men’s and women’s track teams competed at the Dave Rankin Invite in West Lafayette, Ind. Jenn O’Shesky, Heather VanderSlik all finished at the top of their respective events at the Purdue-hosted event over the weekend.Lucius earned GVSU’s only top-place finish on the men’s side, claiming first in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.15 seconds. His time was just three-hundredths of a second faster than second place. Lucius also took third in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.77 seconds. Peter Antor’s time of 53.99 seconds in the 400-meter hurdles gave him a second-place finish. Weston Buchan also picked up a third-place finish in the javelin throw with a distance of 158’9".

A week ago, the Hillsdale College Men’s Track & Field team faced winter-like weather conditions at their meet. But, this week the weather was nearly perfect, as the Chargers recorded four NCAA Provisional Qualifying marks at the Eastern Michigan University Invitational.All-American Andrew Dodson recorded one of those NCAA marks, as he cleared a provisional qualifying height of 2.05m (6’ 8 ¾”) to finish 4th. His mark currently ranks him 9th nationally. His teammate, Evan Steward, also nearly reached a provisional qualifying height in the Pole Vault, as he cleared 15’ 1". Dodson’s fellow All-American, Jared Krout, turned in a provisional qualifying mark of 47.97 seconds in the 400m Dash to finish 7th. His mark ranks him 16th nationally. Krout also ran a leg on the Chargers’ 4x400m Relay team, which finished 8th.Krout’s roommate, Aaron Falk, recorded a provisional qualifying mark in the Hammer Throw for the third consecutive week. Falk threw 54.54m (178’ 11"), which was good enough for 4th place. Fellow thrower Jason Stomps also recorded a provisional qualifying throw in the Hammer, as he threw 53.60m (175’ 10") to finish in 6th place. Falk and Stomps are ranked 5th and 16th, respectively, nationally.The Chargers will return home next week for the 42nd Annual Hillsdale College “GINA” Relays.

Lake Superior State won four events at the Northwood Open held Saturday...Senior DJ Battistella (Newport, Mich.) won the men’s 400-meter dash in :48.58 and took the 400-meter hurdles in :55.51. Laker teammates Tom Thornton (Sand Lake, Mich.) and Ben Tarbutton (Gaylord, Mich.) claimed a one-two finish in the 5,000-meter run. Thornton, a senior, placed first in 15:47.50, while Tarbutton, a junior, followed in 15:58.16...For the second time in three weeks, Battistella, sophomore Evan Williams (Plainwell, Mich.), freshman Eric Ouellette (Hammer, Ont.) and sophomore Paul Davis (St. Ignace, Mich.) won the men’s 4x400-meter relay. The foursome posted a time of 3:21.99, improving upon its Bulldog Invitational time of 3:22.20...Davis was third in the men’s 200-meter dash (:22.25) and fifth in the 100-meter dash (:11.48)...The Lakers will compete in a dual meet Tuesday at Northwood and travel to Hillsdale on Thursday and Friday.

Robert Haynes was the top finisher for the Michigan Tech track and field team winning both the 100 (10.72) and 200 (21.82) at the UMD Bulldog Open Thursday (April 17). Kevin Kayser also won the high jump with a leap of 6-4. Tom Arttus also fared well in the sprints finishing tied for second in the 100 (11.26) and second in the 200 (22.80).The 4x200 relay team of Arttus, Haynes, Aaron Addison and Jason Foster also set a new school record in 1:34.27. Alex Weldum finished third in the 400 (53.34) while Addison was one spot back in fourth (52.98). Weldum also finished fifth in the 110 meter hurdles (17.68). Josh Jensen ran a time of 1:03.45 for a fifth place finish in the 400 meter hurdles.Stuart Kramer led the charge in the distance events, finishing second in the 3,000 meter run with a time of 9:23.76. He also finished fifth in the 1,500 (4:10.61) after being edged out at the line by teammate Ian Connick (4:10.07). Ken Gilkerson posted the fifth fastest time in school history to finish third in the 800 (1:53.72). Aaron Knopp was one spot back in 1:57.29. Jacob Hill led a quartet of Huskies in the 5,000 to finish third in 16:31.59. Kevin Bence was fourth (17:03.01), Scott Ketner was fifth (17:14.13) and Luke Wyzlic was sixth (18:33.04).In the men’s javelin, Foster finished fourth (135-10) and Aaron Addison finished fifth (133-0). Eric Dean set a season best in the pole vault (12-6) to finish tied for fifth.Knopp, Zach Carlson, Gilkerson and Aaron Cedergren teamed up to finish second in the 4x400 meter relay in 3:32.07.

The Northwood University track and field teams took part in their lone home event of the season Saturday afternoon (April 19), hosting the Northwood Open.No team scoring took part in the event, which was held at the Fisher Track at Hantz Stadium
The men’s team feature a pair of double-winners. Darrin Tape (Middleville, Mich./Thornapple-Kellogg) earned wins in the 100 (10.93) and the 200 (21.93), while Monte Perkins (Bloomfield Hills, Mich./Lasher) won the long jump (21-5) and the triple jump (44-7). Sam Watson (Rochester, Mich.) placed second in the 800 with a time of 1:53.97, while Bill Smith (Comstock Park, Mich.) was third in the 110 hurdles (16.36). Micheal Gillmore (Tuscon, Ariz.) claimed third in the javelin (165-6).Northwood will host Lake Superior in a newly scheduled dual meet Tuesday afternoon (April 22).

The men’s track team traveled to the campus of Northwood University to take part in the Northwood Open. Redshirt freshman Jacob McDonald (Westland, Mich./Churchill), with a jump of 6’10.25 in took first place in the event. Nick Krus (St. Clair Shores, Mich./Lakeview HS) (3:59.46), Adam Roach (Port Huron, Mich.) (4:00.01), and Ben Richards (Goodrich, Mich.) (4:00.89) swept the podium in the 1500 meter run. Steve Genther (Laingsburg, Mich.), Eric LaCross (Cheboygan, Mich.), and Cortland Seaver (Freeland, Mich.) all took home top 10 finishes in the event as well. Junior Sam Tilmon (Romulus, Mich.) won the 110 meter hurdle event with a time of 15.26 seconds.In the pole vault, Kyle McDaniel (Yale, Mich.), Sean LaPine (Harbor Beach, Mich.), Aaron Wilkins (Schoolcraft, Mich.), and Dan Benjamin (Columbiaville, Mich./Otisville-Lakeville) placed second, third, fourth, and fifth.Sean Egan (Marysville, Mich.) won the shot put competition with a distance of 52 feet 10.25 inches, and he was followed up in second and third by Josh Koglin (Kimball, Mich./Marysville HS) at 46 feet 6.25 inches. Koglin also took home second in the hammer throw with a distance of 171 feet 7 inches.Tony McDaniel (Yale, Mich.) won the javelin competition with a throw of 170 feet. The track teams are back in action on Thursday the 24th when they travel to Hillsdale to take part in the Gina Relays.
