The AU men were third at last week’s All-Ohio Championships, hosted by UF. The Eagles had 111 points. Ohio State (190.5) won the team title with Cincinnati (166.5) taking second…AU’s distance relay finished first in 10:14.92. That foursome included sophomore Max Hiltner (Wadsworth, OH), junior Anthony Beggrow (Westerville, OH/St. Francis DeSales), freshman Tom Scott (Lima, OH/Shawnee) and junior Edwin Smith (Youngstown, OH/Ursuline)…the 4X400 relay was second in 3:18.18. That quartet consisted of sophomore Joe Horn (Waynesfield, OH/Waynesfield-Goshen), junior Nick Bellanco (Wooster, OH), senior Jerry Ezell (Columbus, OH/South) and Smith…in the mile, Hiltner was second (4:19.89) and Beggrow (4:20.64) was third. Scott won the 800 in 1:55.96. In the 3000, junior Jeremy Trein (Reynoldsburg, OH) was second (8:40.24) and freshman Cameron Johnson (Mt. Gilead, OH) was third (8:41.22). Senior Bryan Vickers (Circleville, OH) claimed a gold medal in the shot (60-8.75). Junior Dan Tierney (Albion, NY/Medina) was second in the pole vault (16-2) and senior Robert Klenk (Kettering, OH/Fairmont) was the runnerup in the weight throw (65-5.5).

The men’s indoor track and field team continued its preparation for the upcoming Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Championships by sending student-athletes to two different meets this past weekend.The bulk of FSU’s squad competed Saturday (Feb. 16) in the Eastern Michigan Classic held at Bob Parks Track in Ypsilanti, Mich. Senior Jared Kelsh (Chippewa Lake/Chippewa Hills) placed fifth in the late section of the mile run (4:25.91) for the Bulldogs while junior Mike Mangieri (Big Rapids) came in sixth in the late section of the 5,000 meters (16:23.43) for the FSU men’s team.The Bulldog men’s squad also placed third in the distance medley relay (10:31.20).FSU also sent selected athletes to Friday’s (Feb. 15) Grand Valley State open, which took place inside GVSU’s Fieldhouse Arena in Allendale, Mich. The GVSU meet included schools such as Cornerstone, Calvin, Hope, Olivet, Adrian, Saint Joseph’s (Ind.) in addition to FSU and Grand Valley State.The Bulldogs are slated to take part in Friday’s (Feb. 22) annual Jack Skoog Open hosted by Central Michigan in Mount Pleasant, Mich. The event begins at 5 p.m. (EST) and will be the last tune up for the GLIAC Championships set for Feb. 29 and March 1 in Findlay, Ohio.

The men’s indoor track and field team wrapped up the All-Ohio Championship on Saturday, February 16 by taking sixth with 30.5 points. Kendell Simon led the charge by taking second in the 800 meter run with a time of 1:56.18. He also teamed with Greg Schaible, Tom Brown and Kyle Tweed to finish second in the distance medley relay at 10:26.19. Findlay’s 4x400 meter relay of Schaible, Simon Bernard, Tom Brown and Erik Birkholz added a fourth place with a time of 3:26.79. Ryan McKibben added a seventh place finish in the pole vault at 14’08.25, Cory Brunow was seventh in the long jump at 20’02.25 and Curtis Hoag placed seventh in the shot put at 50’00.00.

The men picked up a win in the 55-meter dash courtesy of Garron Lucius, who crossed the line in a time of 6.64 seconds. Ryan Rademacher finished second, just one-hundredth of a second behind Lucius, and so did Troy Rock. Rademacher did pick up a win later in the day with a jump of 23’8" in the long jump. Craig Rumpf added a win in the 400-meter dash, taking the victory with a time of 51.27 seconds. Todd Schuster’s time of 4:17.89 in the mile took first place for Grand Valley. Lucius also picked up a win in the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 7.61 seconds. In the field events, Nate Miller cleared 6’8.75" in the high jump to take first. Robert Metellus bested the field with a distance of 45’5" in the triple jump.

The Men’s Track & Field team received two NCAA Provisional Qualifying jumps this weekend, at two different meets, from high jumper Andrew Dodson and triple jumper Andre Holmes. At the Findlay Open on Friday night, Dodson turned in the best performance of his Charger career, as he cleared 2.09m. That effort was good enough for 1st place at the meet, and currently ranks as the 4th best jump in the nation. Then, at the Eastern Michigan University Classic on Saturday, Holmes turned in his own NCAA qualifier. Holmes, who doubles as a wide receiver on the Charger football team, jumped 14.43m in the triple jump to win the meet. Jason Stomps (2nd) and Justin Dailey (3rd), who both turned in NCAA Qualifying performances in the Weight Throw, Jared Krout (2nd – 200m Dash), Hans Driessnack (2nd – 800m Run), Shawn McKinstry (2nd – Mile), Joel VanDerworp (3rd – 800m Run), Britton Deuel (3rd – 3000m Run) and Alex Schmidtendorff (3rd – Mile). The 24th-ranked Chargers will undergo their final tune-up next Saturday at the University of Michigan.

unior Ben Tarbutton (Gaylord, Mich.) placed fourth in the men’s 5,000-meter run with a time of 15:25.83 to lead Lake Superior State at the EMU Classic held Saturday in Ypsilanti, Mich...Sophomore Paul Davis (St. Ignace, Mich.) was seventh in the 200-meter dash (:22.70) and 14th in the 60-meter dash (:07.21)...Freshman Rick Koon (Mayville, Mich.) was 13th in the high jump (6-0 ½)...The Lakers compete Friday at the Jack Skoog Open in Mount Pleasant.

The men’s track team was in Ypsilanti on Saturday in the EMU Classic.Senior Adam Roach (Port Huron, Mich.) with an eighth place finish in the one mile run with a time of 4:19.03, and junior Sam Tilmon’s (Romulus, Mich.) sixth place finish in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.81 seconds in the finals.Junior Kyle McDaniel (Yale, Mich.) tied for seventh place in both the high jump (6 feet 2.25 inches) and pole vault (15 feet). Freshman Sean Urbin (Macomb, Mich./Henry Ford II) had a fourth place finish in the triple jump at a distance of 43 feet 8 inches. Junior Sean Egan (Marysville, Mich.) had a fourth place finish in the shot put with a distance of 52 feet 6.50 inches, and sophomore Josh Koglin (Kimball, Mich./Marysville) finished eighth in the weight throw at a distance of 51 feet 11 inches. The men’s track team is back in action on February 22nd when they travel to Mt. Pleasant to take place in the Central Michigan University Open. d fourth in the 200 dash with a time of 22.86.
