 AU took a split squad to Oberlin last Friday night (Feb. 8) for the Oberlin Open. Senior Jerry Ezell (Columbus, OH/South) set a field house record at Oberlin in the 200 meters (22.51)…sophomore Max Hiltner (Wadsworth, OH) won the mile (4:21.62) and the 800 (2:01.14) at Oberlin. Sophomore Nate Logan (North Canton, OH/Hoover) won the 400 (52.27) and junior Dan Tierney (Albion, NY/Medina) was first in the pole vault (15-10)…senior Bryan Vickers (Circleville, OH) has the longest throw in the country in the shot put and the third best effort in the weight throw. Senior Rob Klenk (Kettering, OH/Fairmont) has the longest throw in the weight throw and Tierney has the second best effort nationally in the pole vault. Also the 4X400 relay has the third best clocking (3:16.89) in the country. That quartet consists of Ezell, sophomore Joe Horn (Waynesfield, OH/Waynesfield-Goshen), junior Nick Bellanco (Wooster, OH) and junior Edwin Smith (Youngstown, OH/Ursuline).

Bulldogs
  The Ferris State University men’s indoor track and field team had several solid performances as the Bulldogs’ added a meet to their schedule by taking part in the Roo Town Open hosted by the University of Akron Friday (Feb. 8). Senior Terrance Shaw (Saginaw/Bridgeport), a former four-year letterwinner for the Bulldog men’s basketball team, tied for fourth place in the high jump (6-2.25) as he made his collegiate track and field debut.Senior Dave Czerny (Piedmont, S.D.) placed tied for fourth in the pole vault (14-9) and the Bulldogs took fourth place in the men’s 4x400-meter relay (3:37.01).Ferris State’s next scheduled action is Friday, Feb. 15, when the Bulldogs take part in the Grand Valley State Open at the GVSU Fieldhouse Arena in Allendale, Mich. FSU is also slated to send selected student-athletes to Saturday’s (Feb. 16) Eastern Michigan Invitational beginning at 11 am.

 The University of Findlay men’s indoor track and field teams competed in two different parts of the country on Friday, February 8 as the program sent individuals to New York, New York for the New Balance Invitational as well as to Ada, Ohio for the Ohio Northern University Friday Night Series. In New York, Kendell Simon led the way by taking second in the 800 meter run with a time of 1:53.48.In Ada on the men’s side, Erik Birkholz took first in the 500 meter dash with a time of 1:09.19 while Greg Schaible finished second in the same event at 1:10.42. In addition, the Oilers 4x400 meter relay team won their event with a time of 3:28.74. Cory Brunow added a third place finish in the long jump at 21’05.50.

Lakers
  The Lakers had it’s men’s track teams competing at three separate events this weekend. While the majority of the teams were at the St. Valentine’s Invitational in Boston, Mass., other student-athletes were at the Roo Town Open in Akron, or competing at SVSU in University Center, Mich. Nate Peck automatically qualified, as well as Todd Schuster.. On the men’s side of the action, the Lakers had a slew of athletes qualify for the NCAA meet later this year. The team performed especially well in the 5000-meter race, with six different athletes qualifying. Nate Peck came in second in the event, and automatically qualified for NCAAs with a time of 14:07.39. Ryan Holm and Grant Fall came in fourth and sixth, respectively, and both provisionally qualified for the NCAA meet. Holm finished with a time of 14:24.84 and Fall crossed the finish line at 14:28.97. Todd Schuster automatically qualified in the 800-meter, taking sixth place with a time of 1:51.71.

  The Hillsdale College Men’s Track & Field team traveled to two different locations this weekend, sending athletes to meets in Massachusetts and Ohio. At Boston University’s Valentine Invitational, sophomore sensation Jared Krout raced to a pair of Top-8 finishes for the Chargers. Krout took 4th-place in the 400m Dash, finishing in a provisional-qualifying time of 48.36 seconds. That mark currently ranks as the 10th best time in the nation. He also finished in 7th place in the 200m Dash, with a time of 21.97 seconds.At Ohio Northern University’s Friday Night Meet #3, the Chargers received a provisional-qualifying performance from junior Jason Stomps in the 35# Weight Throw. Stomps’ threw 17.51m to finish 2nd at the meet, and now ranks as the 12th-best weight-thrower in the nation. Other top finishers at Ohio Northern included Andrew Dodson (1st - HJ), Hans Driessnack (1st - 800m Run), Andre Holmes (1st - TJ), Joel VanDerworp (1st - Mile), Michael Mayday (1st - 5000m Run), Nick Gurica (2nd - 55m Dash, 2nd - 200m Dash), Timothy Howse (2nd - 3000m Run), Justin Dailey (3rd - WT), Blake England (3rd - 200m Dash), Alex Schmidtendorff (3rd - Mile) and JP Perkins (3rd - 3000m Run).The Chargers return to action next weekend with meets at the University of Findlay and Eastern Michigan University.

 Freshman Eric Ouellette (Hammer, Ont.) shattered Lake Superior State’s six-year-old school record in the men’s 800-meter run by clocking a 1:53.93 to place 18th among 189 competitors in the event Saturday at the Boston University Valentine’s Day Invitational. Ouellette bettered the previous mark of 1:54.64 set by J.P. Benke in 2002 and met the NCAA National Qualifying Standard. His time is currently the 12th fastest nationally. Sophomore Paul Davis (St. Ignace, Mich.) broke his own 200-meter dash record by finishing in :22.50. He placed 37th among 202 competitors...Junior Dana Skytta (Michigamme, Mich.) won the weight throw with a toss of 44-9 and placed second in the shot put and high jump at the NMU Northern Challenge on Saturday. Freshman Rick Koon (Mayville, Mich.) won the long jump with a leap of 21-2 1/4, and was fourth in the high jump and fifth in the 400-meter dash. Sophomore Evan Williams (Plainwell, Mich.) took the men’s 800-meter run in 1:57.56 and was one of three Lakers who finished among the top five. LSSU’s Kevin Macomber (Gregory, Mich., 4:25.4), Luke Allen (Manistee, Mich., 4:27.4) and Ben Tarbutton (Gaylord, Mich., 4:32.57) finished second, third and fourth, respectively, in the men’s mile.

   The men claimed three victories at Northern Michigan. John Goldwater (Clinton Twp., Mich./Fraser) earned the win in the 200 with a time of 22.76. Jared Fischer (Unionville, Mich./USA) also claimed a victory, winning the 400 (51.20). NU also went 1-2 in the 3,000, with Sam Watson (Rochester, Mich.) earning the win at 8:55.38 and Josh Jerome (Shepherd, Mich.) placing second at 9:06.54. Will Fulton (Inkster, Mich.) placed second in the 55 (6.49) and third in the 200 (22.96), while John Hartley (Bay City, Mich./Central) was third in the 800 (2:03.20).Highlights from the SVSU meet included Bill Smith (Comstock Park, Mich.) placed fourth in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.70, while Monte Perkins (Bloomfield Hills, Mich./Lasher) placed fifth in the triple jump (42-2.75). NU has this week off. They will return to action at the Jack Skoog open at Central Michigan February 22.

Cardinals
 The men’s track and field squad had strong finishes for the Collegiate Open Indoor Classic Friday night.
The men did particularly well in the field event part of the competitions, Placing at least one member of the team in the top three of every field event excluding Triple jump. Kyle McDaniel (Yale, Mich.) and Jake Morris (Wheeler, Mich./Breckenridge) placed second and third place in the men’s pole vault with jumps 4.50m and 4.35m. Mark Badowsky (Lincoln Park, Mich.) and Sean Urbin (Macomb, Mich./ Henry Ford II) also placed second and third in the long jump; with jumps of 6.49m and 6.45m. Sean Egan (Marysville, Mich.) took the only first place spot in the field events for SVSU with a 15.85m throw in shot put. In the long distances department Adam Roach (Port Huron, Mich.) had a first place finish in the one mile with a time of 4:17.72 which was also a new meet record. Breaking the old one of 4:17.92 which was set on 1/23/2004. Tony Filipek (Caro, Mich./ Kingston) also had a first place finish in the 800m run with a time of 1:56.57. For short distances Sam Tilimon (Romulus, Mich.) and Brock Humphries (Shelby Twp., Mich./ Utica Eisenhower) took first and second in the 60m hurdles with times of 8.29 and 8.56. Sam Tilimon’s (Romulus, Mich.) time was good enough to also break a meet record that was set on 1/23/2004. The Cardinals’ next track meet is at Eastern Michigan located in Ypsilanti, Mchigan, on February 16th at 9:00am.
