Eagles
Ashland was ranked second in last week’s NCAA Division II Great Lakes Regional rankings…at last week’s Northern Kentucky Spring Regional Invitational the Eagles were 16th in the team standings. Senior Chris Robertson (Rittman, OH) had Ashland’s best placement, he finished in a tie for 25th.

Bulldogs
Ferris State matched its highest team finish for the 2007-08 season as the Bulldogs placed second at the 20-team NCAA-II Great Lakes Region Tournament II, one stroke in back of tournament champion Indianapolis (577). The Bulldogs carded rounds of 285 and 293 for a two-round 578 team score on the par 72, 6,842-yard Cherry Blossom Golf Course in Georgetown, Ky. Sophomore Kurt Valley (Bay City/Western) and junior Kelbi Lee (Billings, Mont./Rocky Mountain College) led the way with a pair of season-best 145 scores. Valley (73-72=145) and Lee (70-75=145) finished in a five-way deadlock for 14th place. Junior Derek Shelburne (Scotts/Vicksburg) also turned in his best performance this campaign by firing a 19th-place tying 146-stroke total (71-75=146)... FSU captured second-place honors at the Grand Valley State Laker Invitational (Sept. 17) as a result of totaling a two-round 600 team score... The Bulldogs will compete in the Findlay-Outback Steakhouse Invitational (April 11-12) at the Sycamore Springs Golf Club in Arlington, Ohio, and then participate in the Ashland Invitational (April 13-14) at the Country Club of Ashland (Ohio).

Oilers
The University of Findlay men’s golf team finished tied for 13th at the second NCAA regional of the year on Sunday, April 6 at the Cherry Blossom Golf Course in Georgetown, Kentucky. The Oilers shot a 597 (298, 299) during the tournament to tie with the University of Wisconsin-Parkside... The University of Indianapolis won the event with a 577 while Wayne State University’s Joe Juszczyk and Northwood University’s Jason Dunlop shared the individual champion honors after firing 138’s... Joe McGeaan led the Oilers by tying for 33rd with a 148 (73, 75) while Eric Atsma (73, 76) and Kyle Nickson (77, 72) tied for 41st after they each fired a 149 at the tournament... Adam Craig (75, 78 – 153) and Kyle Brossia (78, 76 – 154) also competed for the Oilers during the event... the Oilers will be back in action again on April 12 when they host the Outback Invitational at the Sycamore Springs Golf Course.

Lakers
Josh Orler and Tyler Hering tied for eighth place to help Grand Valley State take third overall at the Northern Kentucky Spring Regional. Orler and Hering both finished at -1 (143) to lead the Lakers. GVSU’s next meet is on April 13-14 at the Ashland University Invitational in Ashland, Ohio...Orler shot a two-under 70 on day two to finish at 143, while Hering hit par on day one and came in at one-under on day two. Josh Burt used a one-under 71 on day one to finish tied for 19th place at 146. Matthew Malloure and Mike Basinski rounded out the scorers for the Lakers, tying for 61st place at 152.

Mercyhurst finished ninth out of 10 teams at the Ted Barclay Invitational, hosted by Denison College…The Lakers shot a 317-320 637 and finished 43 strokes out of first…Tyler Bidwell shot a 74 in the opening round and was tied for sixth after day one. He shot a 77 in round two to finish in a tie for 13th place…Kyle Waddell was the Lakers’ next-best finisher, shooting an 80-78 for a 158 two-round score…The Lakers will compete in the Findlay Invitational this week, followed by the Ashland Invitational.

Wildcats
The Northern Michigan University men’s golf team teed off the spring 2008 schedule at the Northern Kentucky Spring Regional Tournament over the weekend (April 5-6). NMU shot a two-round total of 652 (330-322) to place 21st. Indianapolis won the event with a card of 577 (285-292). GLIAC member Ferris State was second with a 578 (285-293)... NMU scores: Neil Passinault 158 (80-78); Luke Thode 161 (82-79); Ben Fulcher 162 (83-79); Robert Desimone 173 (87-86); and Tom Sacasin 176 (85-91)... This weekend the ‘Cats are on an Ohio swing. Saturday (Apr. 12) the team is at the Outback Steakhouse Invitational at the University of Findlay. Sunday and Monday (Apr. 13-14) the ‘Cats are at the Ashland University Invitational.

The Northwood University men’s golf team placed sixth out of 21 teams at the NCAA Division II Great Lakes Spring Regional Sunday afternoon (April 6)... The Timberwolves shot team scores of 291-294 to finish at 585. Indianapolis was the overall winner of the event at 577... Individually, Northwood was led by Jason Dunlop (Markham, Ont.), who tied for first overall with a six-under par total of 138 (71-67). His final-round 67 was the low score of the tournament. Pat Swanton (Beaverton, Mich.) tied for eighth overall at 143 (70-73)... Northwood will compete at the Findlay Invitational Apr. 11-12.

The SVSU golf team finished in ninth at the Great Lakes Regional at Cherry Blossom C.C., and finished up second round play with a score of 293, and a 591 total for the tournament... Leading the way for the Cardinals was senior Mike King (Livonia, Mich./Detroit Catholic Central) who followed up his day one 73 with a 71 in the final round. Senior Sean Rutherford (East Lansing, Mich./Haslett) shot a 75 on day one and finished strong on day two with a 71. Sophomore Ronnie Coriasso (Grand Blanc, Mich.) came back strong after shooting a 77 on day one to net a 72 in his final round. Kasey Hocquard (Cheboygan, Mich.), who shot a 73 on day one, struggled to find his stroke in the final round as he shot a 79... Winning the tournament was Indianapolis (577), followed by Ferris State (578), Grand Valley State and Northern Kentucky (580) who tied for third, and Wayne State (582). The Cardinals will golf next at the University of Findlay Invitational (Sycamore Springs GC - Findlay, OH) on April 11-12.

The Wayne State men’s golf team recorded the lowest team score on Sunday and finished in fifth place at last weekend’s Great Lakes Regional, hosted by Northern Kentucky … the Warriors had a 287 on Sunday after compiling a 295 on Saturday to finish at 582 … redshirt sophomore Joe Juszczyk (Dearborn Heights, Mich.) earned co-medalist honors by firing back-to-back rounds of 69 … freshman Eric Johnson (Marquette, Mich.) tied for 25th (75-72—147), while senior Brett Hudson (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) and rookie Michael Wouters (Sterling Hts., Mich.) tied for 41st at 149 … senior Ryan Johnson (New Boston, Mich.) finished in a tie-for-54th (76-75—151) … Juszczyk equaled the school record for 36 holes set by Ryan Johnson in 2004 and tied by Johnson in 2006 … the next competition for WSU will be at the Outback Steakhouse Invitational (Sycamore Springs G.C.) beginning Friday in Arlington, Ohio.
