  The Eagles were third out of 10 teams at the Wayne State Motor City Invitational. Freshman John Furlong (Medina, OH) carded the Eagles’ top score. He finished in a tie for sixth. Senior Joe D’Andrea (Westerville, OH/St. Francis DeSales) finished in a tie for 12th.

  Ferris State registered a seventh-place 600 team score at the Saginaw Valley State Cardinal Invitational (Sept. 28-29), which was held at the par 72, 6,860-yard Bay City Country Club in Bay City, Mich. The Bulldogs produced rounds of 306 and 294 in finishing three strokes behind sixth-place Findlay (597) among the nine competing teams. Sophomore Kurt Valley (Bay City/Western) and senior Matt Erickson (DePere, Wis.) were FSU’s top performers as both tied for 16th place with 149-stroke totals. Valley posted scores of 77 and 72 while Erickson registered a 73 score followed by a final-round 76... For the second straight tournament, Ferris State captured seventh-place honors as the Bulldogs carded a two-round 607-stroke total at the 12-team Wayne State Motor City Invitational (Sept. 30-Oct. 1). FSU tallied a first-round 313 score last Sunday (Sept. 30) at the par 72, 6,807-yard Pheasant Run Golf Club in Canton, Mich., and then accumulated a 294-stroke total in Monday’s (Oct. 1) rain-delayed final round at the par 71, 6,400-yard Edgewood Country Club in Commerce Township, Mich. Paving the way for Ferris was junior Brian Janty (Madison, Wis./West), who fired a 149 score (77-72=149) to finish with a team-leading 18th-place tying effort... Sophomore Eric Lilleboe (Okemos/Lansing Catholic Central) leads the Bulldogs with a 73.67-stroke average (884 total strokes) in 12 rounds while Kurt Valley’s 75.58 average (907 total strokes) in 12 rounds ranks second best among the team’s stroke leaders... The Bulldogs’ next action on the links is Oct. 8-9 for the GLIAC Championships at the Findlay (Ohio) Country Club.

  The Oilers finished fourth at the first NCAA regional of the year behind an eighth place finish by freshman Joe McGeean…Findlay then followed that performance up with a sixth place showing at the SVSU Invitational behind McGeean again, who placed fourth.

Golden Knights
  The Gannon men’s golf team recorded a “did not finish” last Monday at the Motor City Invitational hosted by Wayne State University. Rain and poor course conditions forced a delay during Monday’s final round and the Golden Knights were forced to withdraw for travel purposes. Gannon was tied for 11th place after posting a 317 during the first round. Drew Deimel (Erie, Pa./Cathedral Prep) was Gannon’s best golfer during the first day with a 77. Matt Barnes (79), Pat Kloecker (79), Matt Walpole (82), and Bobby Scalise (82) completed Gannon’s five-member team. Dan Hebert (78), Rob Hersch (80), and Sean Callaghan (84) competed as individuals. Gannon returns to action October 9-10 at the 2007 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Championships hosted by the University of Findlay and the Findlay Country Club.

  Entering the final round of the SVSU Cardinal Invitational, Grand Valley State and Wayne State were tied for first place out of nine teams with a 294…The Lakers fired a 287 in the final round to seal the victory over the Warriors by five strokes…Sophomore Matt Malloure paced the way for the Lakers win as he shot a one under par, 143 to finish in third place in the tournament…He recorded a 71 in the first round and a 72 in the second round…Senior Josh Orler finished in seventh place with a one over par, 145…He had a 75 on Friday and came back to shoot a 70 on Saturday…Junior Tyler Hering tied for ninth place overall with a two over par 146…Hering recorded a 72 and a 74…Sophomore Josh Burt shot a five over par, 149, which tied him for 16th place…Burt posted a 78 in the first round and came back to shoot a 70 in the final round…Freshman Cameron Thomas tied for 34th place with a 154 as he fired a 76 and a 78…GVSU will compete in the GLIAC Championships hosted by the University of Findlay on Oct. 8-9…The Lakers are looking to defend their title that they claimed last season in Midland, Mich.

  The Mercyhurst men’s golf team competed in day one of the Wayne State Motor City Invitational on Sept. 30. Due to weather and travel, the Lakers had to withdrawl from competition on the second day. After day one, the Lakers were led by senior Kyle Waddell and junior Tyler Bidwell who both shot a 75 (+3). Trailing Waddell and Bidwell for Mercyhurst was senior Steven Barr (+9), senior Ryan McNulty (+14) and senior Ben Deets (+20). The Lakers will return to the links on Oct. 7 for the Ohio Northern Invitational.

Timberwolves
   The Northwood University men’s golf team placed fourth out of nine teams at the SVSU Cardinal Invitational Saturday afternoon (Sept. 29)... The Timberwolves shot team scores of 296 and 297 to finish at 593. Grand Valley was the overall winner at 581, followed by Wayne State at 586 and SVSU at 588... Northwood was led by Jason Dunlop (Markham, Ont.). He placed second overall with a two-under par total at 142 (70-72). Luigi Spadafora (Milford, Mich.) tied for 14th at 148 (72-76)... NU competes at the GLIAC Championships October 8-9.

    The Cardinals finished third at their host tournament, the SVSU Intercollegiate, at Bay City Country Club ... Junior Kasey Hocquard (Cheboygan, Mich.) finished first at the tournament with a four-under par 140, including a final round 68...Senior Sean Rutherford (East Lansing, Mich.) shot a four-over par 148 and finished 14th ... Hocquard shot a two-under par 142 at Wayne State to lead the Cards to a second place finish at Plum Hollow Golf Course ... Freshman Nolan Hohensee (Hemlock, Mich.) finsished 10th at the Wayne State tournament with a three-over par 147.

   Wayne State won its Motor City Invitational with a combined score of 576, seven strokes under second-place Saginaw Valley State (296-287—583) … the Warriors posted a first-round score of 291 on Sunday at Pheasant Run in Canton and a 285 in the rain-delayed final round Monday at Edgewood … Brett Hudson (Bloomfield Hills, Mich./Orchard Lake St. Mary’s) shot 140 (71-69) to earn medalist honors, the third win of his WSU career … Ryan Johnson (New Boston, Mich./Huron) finished in a tie for sixth (72-71—143) … Eric Johnson (Marquette, Mich.), who finished tied-for-23rd (79-71—150) and Hudson tied for a team-high with seven birdies … Bryan Lynch (White Lake, Mich./Lakeland) made 28 pars, a tournament-high, and finished tied for 12th (73-75—148) … Wayne State will play in the GLIAC Championship beginning Monday at Findlay Country Club.
