Ferris State opened its 2007-08 season by claiming third place of six teams at the Northwood Invitational (Sept. 10) in Midland, Mich. The Bulldogs compiled a 601-stroke total (299-302=601, +25) in the 36-hole tourney which was conducted at the par 72, 7,056-yard Currie West Golf Course... Sophomore Eric Lilleboe (Okemos/Lansing Catholic Central) was the Bulldogs’ top performer as he posted a first-place and career-best one-under par 143 score (70-73=143) to earn tourney medalist recognition. Sophomore Kurt Valley (Bay City/Western) finished in a four-way tie for ninth place as a result of shooting a 149 (73-76=149, +5)...Ferris State will host its annual Ferris State Bulldog Invitational this weekend (Sept. 15-16) at FSU’s Katke Golf Course in Big Rapids, Mich. FSU placed tied for third in the 2006 Ferris State Bulldog Invite (Sept. 16) by carding a two-round 589 team score (303-286=589)...Following the home tournament, the Bulldogs will participate in the Grand Valley State Laker Invitational (Sept. 17) at The Meadows Golf Course in Allendale, Mich.

Grand Valley State finished in second place in the Northern Michigan Invitational in Marquette, Mich. with a two round score of 601...The Lakers shot a 301 on Saturday and a 300 on Sunday...Senior Josh Orler and sophomore Josh Burt led the way for the Lakers as they both recorded a 150...Orler fired a 74 on Saturday, followed by a 76 on Sunday, while Burt posted a 75 on both days...Sophomore Matt Malloure recorded a 152 as he had a 76 on both days and sophomore Nick Blake tallied a 156 (79, 77)...Junior Tyler Hering (86, 73) and freshman Cameron Thomas (81, 78) both recorded a 159 and senior Mark Pawlowski shot a 160 (76, 84)...GVSU will play in the Ferris State Invite in Big Rapids, Mich. on Sept. 15-16.

Mercyhurst placed 13th at the Burger King/Ohio Valley University Invitational Friday and Saturday… Kyle Waddell led the Lakers with a 7-over 149 and tied for 29th in the individual standings…Teammates Patrick Jackson and Tyler Bidwell were four shots behind with a pair of 153’s…The Lakers will compete next at the Malone Invitational Friday and Saturday.

The Northern Michigan University men’s golf team opened up its 2007 schedule by hosting the NMU Invitational over the weekend at the Marquette Golf Club…The Wildcats finished in fifth place with a score of 652 (332-320)….Robert Desimone led the ‘Cats with a 156 (75-81) as Neil Passinault was one stroke back at 157 (84-73)…This weekend the ‘Cats will tee it up at the Ferris State and Grand Valley events.

The Northwood University men’s golf team opened their 2007-08 season by placing sixth at the Northwood Invite Monday afternoon (Sept. 10)... The tournament was held on the Currie West Golf Course, a 7,056 yard par 72... The Timberwolves shot team scores of 302-307 to finish at 609. Wayne State was the overall winner at 593 (295-298), followed by Saginaw Valley at 599 (300-299)... Individually, the Timberwolves were led by junior Luigi Spadafora (Milford, Mich.). He shot rounds of 74 and 76 to tie for 13th overall. Pat Swanton (Beaverton, Mich.) and Scott Jaschuk (Milford, Mich.) tied for 19th at 152. Competing as individuals, Danny Heichel (Troy, Mich.) tied for 13th (72-78) and Andrew Parr (Grand Blanc, Mich.) tied for 19th (77-75). Eric Lilleboe of Ferris State University was the individual winner at 143 (70-73)... Northwood is back in action Sept. 15-16 at the Ferris State Invitational.

The men’s golf squad hit the links for the first time on Monday (Sept. 10) and fared well finishing second with a team score of 599 at the Northwood Invite played on Currie Golf Course... Junior Kasey Hocquard (Cheboygan, Mich.) finished second with a 36-hole total of 145 (+1) and was one of three players who went under par in the morning 18 holes with a 70 (-2). Senior Sean Rutherford (East Lansing, Mich./Haslett) tied for fourth with a total of 147 (+3) having shot a 73 in the morning and a 74 in the afternoon. Freshman Nolan Hohensee (Hemlock, Mich.) tied for 16th in his first meet with a total of 151 (+7)... Sophomore Mike Horn (Clarkston, Mich.) carded a 157 and finished tied for 40th. Senior Mike King (Livonia, Mich./Detroit Catholic Central) struggled to a 161 which tied for 43rd. SVSU was six strokes behind Wayne State for the title.

The Wayne State men’s golf team won back-to-back competitions to open the 2007-08 season … the Warriors were victorious at the Northern Michigan Invitational (296-300—596) on Saturday and Sunday, and went on to win the Northwood Invitational (295-298—593) on Monday … Wayne State had the top three finishers at the NMU event, with Ryan Johnson (New Boston, Mich./Huron) taking medalist honors … Joe Juszczyk (Dearborn Heights, Mich./Divine Child) finished second at NMU and fourth at Northwood … five golfers made their Wayne State debuts over the weekend, including three freshmen … Eric Johnson (Marquette, Mich.) tied for third in his first collegiate competition at NMU in his hometown … WSU will play in the Ferris State Invitational this weekend and the GVSU Invitational on Monday, Sept. 17.
