AU’s 59 points at Mercyhurst is two points shy of the school single-game record. In 1922 Ashland scored 61 points against Defiance… Ashland has scored 113 points in the last two games. That’s a school record for the most points in two consecutive games, breaking the mark of 111 set by the 1929 team…the 101 points AU and Mercyhurst scored marks the most combined points in a game involving an Ashland University football team…freshman Jaman Javey (Euclid, OH) had 124 yards on 17 carries and sophomore Dawon Harvey added 104 yards on 18 attempts against the ‘Hurst. That marked the first time since 2002 Ashland had two players go over 100 yards rushing in the same game. This was the first 100-yard rushing day for both players…senior WR Brandon Gilmore (Mansfield, OH/Madison) had his second straight 100-yard receiving day. Gilmore caught 3 passes for 103 yards. Entering last week’s game, Gilmore was 10th nationally in receiving yards per game (107.0). His teammate, senior David Ziegelhofer (Lexington, OH), was eighth in the nation in receiving yards per game (110.3) last week…AU is 3-1 in GLIAC play for the first time since 1999…AU is averaging 43.2 ppg., and 502.2 ypg., in total offense.

The Bulldogs registered their second consecutive victory and closed out a two-game homestand with a 31-13 GLIAC win over Northern Michigan in the school’s eighth annual Hall of Fame Game Saturday (Sept. 29) afternoon at FSU’s Top Taggart Field in Big Rapids, Mich... The host Bulldogs jumped out to a 10-6 halftime advantage and then scored the next 21 consecutive points in improving to 3-2 overall and 2-2 in GLIAC action... Senior quarterback C.J. Van Wieren (Holland/West Ottawa) accounted for 312 of Ferris State’s 420 yards of total offense in the victory. The 6-4 Van Wieren ran for 99 yards on 19 carries (5.2 avg.) and scored once on the ground. He also completed 16-of-27 passes for 213 yards and one TD pass... Junior outside linebacker Jeff Hollandsworth (Livonia/Stevenson) scored his first collegiate touchdown on a fumble recovery return for FSU. Ferris senior linebacker Jordan Moore (Ada/Lowell) scooped up a Northern Michigan fumble at the Wildcat 42-yard line and ran 32 yards with the ball before pitching it off to Hollandsworth, who finished the return from 10 yards away.

The Oilers suffered a 34-3 loss to Indianapolis over the weekend giving them a 2-3 record on the year with a 1-3 mark in the GLIAC…One of the few bright spots for Findlay, in terms of moving the football, was red-shirt junior defensive back Jordan Marshall, who gained a school record 181 yards on six kick-off returns. He eclipsed the record of five returns by Steve Blackburn against Hillsdale in 1969, Moe Jacobs against Baldwin Wallace in 1969 and Dave Abdulla against Wittenberg in 1971. His kick-off return yardage broke the record of 158 set by Harry Garland and Josh Lenaburg. Garland had set the record in 2001 against Saginaw Valley State while Lenaburg achieved the feat against Indianapolis in 2004.

Gannon dropped to 0-5 for the second consecutive season after a 50-6 loss to 28th-ranked Tiffin … the Golden Knights have dropped three consecutive games against the Dragons … Tiffin held a 594-77 advantage in total offense … Anthony Weaver (Erie, Pa./McDowell) reached double digits in tackles for the second time this season with 12 stops, falling one shy of his career-high … Sean Wallace (Miami, Fla./Christopher Columbus) recorded his first career interception in the first quarter … Tomar Pettis (Massillon, Ohio/Washington) added his second career pick in the same quarter … Chris Murphy (Orchard Park, N.Y./Orchard Park) tied a career-high in tackles (8) while forcing and recovering a fumble.

Grand Valley State upped its winning streak to 32 games, the longest active winning streak in college football and the second longest in DII history...GVSU head coach Chuck Martin improved to 42-3 in his career...GVSU is 90-9 since the 2000 season and 89-5 in its last 94 games...Grand Valley State is 57-3 in its last 60 GLIAC games...GVSU has won 24 straight September games...Grand Valley State has won 21 straight games in the series versus Wayne State...Brad Iciek’s 403 passing yards is the third-best, single-game total in GVSU annals...Three receivers went over the 100-yard receiving mark for the first time in school history versus Wayne State. Blake Smolen hauled in 8 catches for 119 yards, Brandon Horn 7 for 117 and John Mathews five for 108.

Saturday’s 37-0 home shutout win over Michigan Tech was the first shutout by Hillsdale since 1996, and the most lopsided shutout by the team since a 49-0 win over St. Joseph’s back in 1994…Four different players intercepted passes for Hillsdale in the game, including one each by Tom Korte and Alex Mileskiewicz, former teammates at Grand Rapids Catholic Central High School…Senior quarterback Mark Nicolet continued to set more records for the Chargers, completing a school-record 34 passes in the game…Nicolet’s 376 yards gives him four straight 300-yard passing games, another school record…Senior wide receiver Nick Gurica set a new school record with 13 catches in the game…His 197 receiving yards is a personal career-high, and he caught two touchdown passes…In three home games, Hillsdale is outscoring its opposition by a combined score of 145-31, an average score of 48-10…Michigan Tech hadn’t been shutout since a 35-0 loss to Ferris State in 2001…This was the first time Hillsdale hosted Michigan Tech since Oct. 26, 2002, Charger head coach Keith Otterbein’s first season in his current position…Hillsdale has scored 30 or more points in six straight games, a school record…That streak dates back to the final game of the 2006.

Jace Morrison was 2-for-2 on field goal tries, marking his first two field goals of his career ... He also hit all four PATs to improve to 15-of-15 on the season ... Craig Ray’s third-quarter touchdown was the first of his career and marked the 10th different Greyhound player to find the paint ... UIndy has outrushed opponents, 1,095-405 this season ... The Hounds’ defense has 12 sacks in the past three games combined.

Despite being held scoreless for the first 21 minutes of the game, Mercyhurst scored at least 40 points for the fourth straight week in a 59-43 loss to Ashland Saturday…Mercyhurst’s offense rolled up a season-high 550 yards of total offense…Brandon Hill and Aaron Haynes were the first players since 2006 to have at least 100 yards receiving, ending with 163 yards and 126 yards respectively. Hill’s 163 yards were the most for a Laker since Dan Schuler had 168 against Northern Michigan on September 3, 2005…Richard Stokes’ streak of three straight games with at least 150 rushing yards was stopped. He finished with just 55 yards on the ground…Mitch Phillis followed up a career-high 313-yards passing a week ago with 324 yards this week. He also had four touchdown passes for the third consecutive game…Back-up quarterback Joe Laffey came on late to go 8-for-11 for 131 yards and a touchdown passing, as well as 29 yards rushing with another score…Tim Herbener had a team-high 13 tackles and Zac Wild, who leads the GLIAC in tackles for loss, added 11 with one more tackle for loss.

Kirk Williams (DeWitt, Mich.) caught four passes at Hillsdale last Saturday (Sept. 29) to move into fourth place all-time at Michigan Tech. The senior now owns 120 career catches … Senior Will Clark (Flint, Mich./Carman-Ainsworth) tallied a career-high 12 tackles at Hillsdale including nine solos. The cornerback has 26 tackles on the season … Michigan Tech’s first six opponents had a combined record of 8-1 when the Huskies played them … Tech’s loss to Hillsdale was its first since the 2002 season. The Huskies had won the 2003 and 2006 matchups, and the teams didn’t meet from 2004-05.

The Wildcats are still searching for its first win of the season after the loss on Saturday to Ferris State…For the first time this season Buddy Rivera failed to throw a touchdown pass…Ben Hempel threw his first career touchdown pass against Ferris State to Dustin Brancheau, it was his first career TD reception…Mark Bossuah accounted for 119 of the ‘Cats 142 yards of rushing on Saturday…Anthony Leandri was 2-3 in field goals against Ferris as he connected from 31 (season long) and 27 yards, for the season he is now 5-7…Dan Elmore had two punt returns against FSU and now has all six on the season for the ‘Cats…Elmore had a game-high eight receptions which tied a career high…Nicholas Bloch led NMU against FSU with 11 total tackles (six solo and five assisted) and leads the team with 40 total tackles (20 solo and 20 assisted)…NMU has had over 400 yards of total offense in three of its four games…In all four games, NMU has had the ball for over half the game…NMU was 2-5 in the red zone against FSU, entering the game NMU was 13-13 in the red zone…NMU was 3-15, a season low, in third down conversions on Saturday and for the season the ‘Cats are 27-61.

Northwood snapped its two game losing streak by downing rival Saginaw Valley, 28-10 ... NU has now won the “Axe Bowl” in each of the last two seasons ... it was the first win for the home team in the series since the 2003 season, as the road team had claimed each of the last three contests during the regular season ... with the win, Northwood coach Pat Riepma tied former coach Jack Finn as the winningest coach in school history ... the Timberwolves rushed for a season-high 384 yards and held SVSU to just 19 yards on the ground ... NU finished the contest with a 462-270 advantage in total yards ... after losing time of possession in each of their first four games, Northwood held a 37:30-23:30 edge against Saginaw Valley ... included in that advantage was Northwood’s final drive that took up the final 10:52 seconds of the game ... Northwood forced five turnovers on the day after entering the contest having four takeaways the entire season ... Torris Childs (N. Chicago, Ill.) finished with 185 yards rushing and a touchdown on the day ... it was Childs’ fourth-straight 100 yard game ... Kyle Clement (Hudsonville, Mich.) had a big day on defense for Northwood, finishing with five tackles, two tackles for loss, a sack, a quarterback hurry and his first career interception.

Senior quarterback Chris Dougherty (Grinnell, Iowa) struggled in a loss at Northwood but did set a career school record for completions going 27-of-41...Dougherty has 501 completions in a Cardinal uniform and has thrown for over 6,000 yards...Senior defensive tackle Josh Miller (Waterford, Mich./Mott) established a season-high with 15 tackles including 12 solo at Northwood...Miller has now led the team in tackles for three consecutive weeks...Senior wide receiver Ric Cottengim (Elk Grove, Calif.) caught his 30th career touchdown pass at Northwood and finished the game with seven catches for 60 yards...Sophomore punter Kurtis Fournier (Warren, Mich./Cousino) averaged 43.2 yards per punt in five tries at Northwood and pinned NU inside the 20 twice...Junior Jeremy Burr (Saginaw, Mich./Swan Valley) kicked a career-long 37-yard field goal against the Timberwolves and is now 2-of-2 this season...The loss at Northwood was the first back-to-back losses against their rival since the 1998-00 seasons.

Sophomore safety Brandon Cooper (Detroit, Mich./St. Martin de Porres) had two interceptions against Grand Valley, the most by a Warrior in one game since Earl Carruthers intercepted three passes at Ashland on Oct. 4, 2003 … Cooper also had three pass break-ups to move into a tie for second on the team with four this season … sophomore running back Joique Bell (Benton Harbor, Mich.) moved into fourth place on the all-time carries list at 490 in 16 games … Bell also passed Pierre Brown (1998-2001) for fifth place in career all-purpose yards (3392) after recording 177 yards vs. GVSU (151 rushing + 26 receiving) … Bell surpassed Jim Gendron (1976-78) for 10th place in total offense at 2,840 yards … sophomore place-kicker Anthony Morasso (Detroit, Mich./Harper Woods Notre Dame) made his first collegiate field goal attempt on Saturday … junior Dante Dunn (Lansing, Mich./Waverly) moved up in two kickoff return categories – he is eighth in total returns (35) and fourth in kickoff return yards (920).
